I mostly agree with the lineup, except I think Morientes starts ahead of Crouch. It would be nice to put the result beyond doubt after the first leg.

but Crouch cannot play in the first three (?) EPL matches, and Morientes can, so use Crouch where he can play, and save Morientes for EPL...no?

Man, this match still bothers me. I love liverpool, and they will forever be my english team, but Kaunas is my blood. I think I am gonna be dissapointed either way this match ends.

I hate to sound like an idiot.....but where is that team actually from? I know they mentioned it last week when I was watching the live feed online, but I completely forgot

They are a Lithuanian club.

I think it should be an interesting match. Kaunas are in the middle of the their domestic league (which means most of their players are match fit), while Liverpool are still working through their preseason, but it doesnt seem like they have been rusty in the past few friendlys.

I think Moro should start up front with Cisse. Crouch needs to settle in a bit. Moro won't be used as much during the domestic season with Crouch arriving.

Liverpool CANNOT sleep through these 2 matches. Kaunas is one of the tougher Eastern European clubs, and they have given UK teams games in the past. Namely Celtic and Rangers.

yes im hoping Liverpool shows up with the game face on and nab a couple of away goals early. I think these guys will come to play. why i think that, god knows, but its quiet out there. toooo quite. :)

hell of a way to tune up for the season, knocking off successivly tougher country champions.

Yeah, that is always a perk. I wanted to see Kaunas get a shot at a cup. I wanted them to see real action. They wont now, because they will lose to liverpool. We cant not have our boys, the defending european champs there again. They must defend!

Knock it off, you're makin' me homesick.

Ok, I know nothing at all about this team,b ut as someone mentioned, being in the middle of their season will help them somewhat. We can't just expect to cruise---but this is a different team than the Houllier had. Hopefully the Reds will play to their capapbilities nd cruise into the next round.

Cork City went up to play Ekranas, the current Lithuanian league leaders, last week in the UEFA Cup and won 2-0 (could have been more). The pitch will be awful and there will probably be a hostile crowd, but I don't expect Liverpool to have too much trouble. I expect a narrow victory (some chance of a draw) at "S.Dariaus ir S.Gireno Sporto Centras," followed by a more emphatic win at Anfield.

Here's their stadium (from stadionwelt.de)

It just hosted the European Youth Track and Field Championships, so the field will be in extra-poor condition.

I heard Finnan has a virus and is doubtful. Can anyone confirm this?

thanks for the update. It is reported that Finnan (the Irish Roberto Carlos) had a stomach virus and missed out on Saturday, but is expected to play on Wednesday. Must be that spicy Swiss food. Calvin's revenge. :D

Finnan is the one of the few players in the team that we don't have any cover for. Josemi is useless, so hopefully the rumors about signing the fullback from Sevilla are true.
