For those of you with kids, I just thought I would mention that my two boys just finished a week of half day camp with DC United Soccer Academy. They absolutely loved it. Eddie got a compliment from John Harkes after a cheeky backheel, and he was walking on air the whole day. Check it out - I think they still have more camps this summer, or there is always next year. There's a link on the DCU home page if you are interested.

Thanks for the input.
I tried to get my son in this year. But my work schedule just did not work around the camps in our area.
He ABSOLUTELY wanted to go. And he hates the heat. So much that he won't do a camp this summer.
We'll look again next year.

I really wanted to do the full day camp, but it was only offered in Germantown, DC and Fredericksburg! It's so hot, half day was probably better. The place in Herndon is their old practice facility (now a church) and the kids said the field turf was starting to burn the bottoms of their feet!

Is Eddie your younger boy? He was telling me all about what he thought of the San Jose game at the post-game tailgate tailgate.
That kid knows soccer.

My sister has been working at these camps the past few weeks and has loved it (well maybe not all the kids, but she has liked the instructors). I know they added another week of the "Elite" camp and might have addes some other dates as well.

The academy may be good, but the youth teams are poorly run, poorly coached (whenever a coach does bother to show up) and at over $600 a money-making rip-off

He knows soccer and he's not afraid to tell you so.
A couple nights ago he was all upset because he couldn't name Chelsea's starting 11 (there was one defender he couldn't remember).
Last night William bet him he couldn't name all the goalkeepers in MLS. He rattled off all 12, no problem, so William said, "Yeah but what about the third stringers?" The fun never ends at our house!
He quit watching Pokemon before school, and watches FSC and Gol TV instead. Only 9 years old and WAY more obsessed about soccer than I am.
(William, on the other hand, wants to follow your lead - become a hooligan and accidentally blow himself up! :) )
My neice attended the DC United Soccer Academy this year.
On the day it concluded she insisted her mom drive over to show her soccer fanatic and DC United season ticket holder uncle all the memorabilia she received.
She got an autographed ball, several autographed soccer cards of DC United players, and a pair of soccer boots.
My neice plays defense and wears #4. The academy was right next to the DC United training area and the kids got to mingle some with the players before and after practice.
Brandon Prideaux, DC United's Right Back, wears # 4 for DC. I guess he was retiring his boots, but as he was leaving practice he noticed my niece and stopped by to give her his boots and autographed them.
Props to Brandon, my new favorite DC United player.
