Do you support your local music scene? If so, who have you enjoyed lately that people probably havent' heard of?

While they're not "local" for me, I was in Columbus, OH and saw The Iry (http://www.theiry.com/i.html) and Embassy (http://www.rockembassy.com/) this weekend. Both are small name, but solid bands and put on a good show. The Iry sounds particularly good live, better than on their CD.

While I haven't heard them myself, I am hearding very good things about The Redwalls (http://www.theredwalls.com/) coming out of Chicago from people who I trust with regards to music.

The best band i've heard of from Chicago is Canastsa.

actually it may be the best new band i've heard this year, period.

San Diego: Scarlet Symphony (http://www.scarletsymphony.com/)

very good up and coming band. Kind of sound like a cross between David Bowie and the Pixies (i don't know, something like that)...

In NYC, it doesn't get much hotter than:

Clap Your Hands Say Yeah!

pitchfork reviewed their album....gave it a 9/10. It is so amazing...has been getting like 2 spins a day from me for 3 weeks. Excellent, excellent album. They are going on tour with the National in Sept/Oct....should see them if you can!

NSYNC, O-Town, Mandy Moore, etc. As you can tell, the local music is ********. If it weren't for the fact that I lived here, I'd suggest the federal government invade and bomb Orlando.

They're a "newish" band who's been around for about a year. But all the guys in the band are music scene veterans.

I'm definitely a big supporter of DC music, and the scene here is famously active. If you omit The Evens (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A18728-2005Mar8.html?nav=rss_print/style) (because it's Ian MacKaye and people automatically listen to what he does) and Q & Not U (qandnotu.org) (because they're about to break up and have garnered some national attention), then Medications (medicationsband.com) is the best live act of the bunch. They're fine on record, but live they will make your jaw drop. Other excellent local acts, off the top of my head, include Beauty Pill (beautypill.com), The Aquarium (aquariummusic.com), French Toast (frenchtoastdc.com), The Routineers (routineers.com), Head-Roc (head-roc.com), and Del Cielo (http://www.delcielorock.com/).
