Does anyone have a link or list of who is in and who is out so far this summer? That'd be a nice thing to have early on in the thread. Q

Nice summary.

The key now appears to be twofold: 1. provide some additional CB cover in the form of Milito or Upson, and 2. addition through subtraction by moving Dudek and Baros now, and Kewell if and when he's ever fit enough to be transfered.

If you look at the squad, Rafa has achieved his goal of upgrading beyond his preferred starting eleven, and we won't see the same decline in away games after a mid-week champions league game because there will be the depth now to sustain the high level of play and take some of the pressure off key guys (and/or absorb the kind of injury bug the club suffered through last year).

Personally, I'm ambivilant about Figo: great addition if he wants to prove he can still play and force his way back into Portugal's WC team -- potentially an over-priced prima donna if that's not his motivation. Having said that, Rafa doesn't appear to tolerate prima donnas too well (see Baros).

Daniel Alves is the latest named to be linked. But, he has a buyout clause of 60 MILLION EUROS!!!!

I know the translation sucks....but it's better than nothing, right?

Luque is being linked to the reds but i think he is a little expensive.
Madrid have also set an eye on him

Here is more on Alaves:

http://skysports.planetfootball.com/list.asp?hlid=293110&CPID=23&CLID=&lid=2&title=Reds+in+new+Spanish+link&channel=football_home

It says we offered 10 million Euros, and Sevilla may accept slightly more than that. They have 4 Brazilians on their roster now that Baptista is staying and your only allowed 3 non-EU players.

Also Zaragoza aren't going to sell us Militio

http://skysports.planetfootball.com/list.asp?hlid=293064&CPID=23&CLID=14&lid=&title=Real+stand+firm+over+Milito&channel=premiership

The article also mentions that Rafa could target Walter Samuel or Jorge Andrade. Andrade could be a good signing. He has the pace that we need at the back.

Seen Samuel a few times, he seemed to stand out in games I've seen but I didn't feel that he's Liverpool material.

Samuel was great when he was at Roma, but he really struggled at Madrid last season. I think he is a player that would struggle to adapt the Premiership.

Andrade players for Deportivo and starts alongside Carvalho for Portugal. He is a very good defender with tons of pace.

Don't say such an awful thing about Pelegrino!

Seriously though, Samuel was dreadful for Madrid last year and should probably try to find his way back to Serie A. He would have a very rough go in the EPL, IMO, due to the pace of the league. It would probably be pretty ugly for him.

I like the idea of Andrade though. He could be a nice player at Liverpool I think.

Baros is missing the point. He is on the final year of his contract. Thats great that he wants to "earn his place in the team," but Liverpool don't want him to leave for free next summer. If he is so serious about playing for Liverpool he would be asking for a contract extension. But he is not doing that because he prefers to leave on a free next summer.

Riise Carragher Alves?/Milito?/Andrade? Finnan
Reina

subs Carson, Hyypia, Josemi, Warnock, Traore

Not a bad defense by any way shape or form, no weaknesses except traore, we got some depth too, chelsea may have more expensive players back there, but they just dont have the heart that we do, we proved that last year when we SHUT THEM OUT in the semifinals

I can see Reina outperforming Cech, and liverpool having the best defense in the premiership next term
