Anelka is garbage... I repeat garbage. He scored four goals in Turkey last term. His transfer fee is too high and his wages will be too high. He is exactly the type of player the club has been trying to rid itself over paid and underperforming tempermental twats

I will not be a happy man! So far I think Souness has been fairly shrewd this summer, getting rid of the bad boys and brining in two great players. Signing this fool would be a shocker. I just hope this is a smokescreen for something.
Lets hope the following arrive....
Upson (well I hope so)
Boa Morte (more or less a done deal in my opinion)
Figo (which has gone suspiciously quiet on all fronts for all clubs)
Howay the lads.

But with Bellamy gone and Bowyer seemingly on the way out, who does Newcastle have left to cause problems on and off the pitch? :-)
Seriously, though, he scored plenty of goals for us at Man City and may be the biggest reason we survived in the Prem two years ago. But it's a huge gamble. His price tag's big and you never know if he'll revert to the sulking player of old.
There doesn't seem to be a lot of quality strikers available this year in the transfer market. I say you should talk them down to about 2.5 million, and if he complains again about not playing in Europe like he did at Man City, ship him off to TNS or Dynamo Tblisi, or some other other god-forsaken place that will allow him to experience the bright lights of Europe for a couple of rounds. That's what we did :-)
Oh BTW...just because I never get enough of this scoreline:

VANCOUVER WHITECAPS 3 SUNDERLAND 0

Hmmm.
Well, I voted "yes".
Not a matter of his being a "famous" name. Just happens to be the best option (realistic and unrealistic) we've been linked to all summer.

I'm with picaraza, this seems to be our last chance for a good striker. Boa Morte isn't coming, I haven't heard jack about getting Kuijt, Owen is too expensive (and won't leave). What does that leave us with? Pick up Anelka, if he gets to be a problem, hopefully we'll have other options.

I just hope that they don't overpay and he is not our last signing. :(

Anelka will just be Kluivert and stop showing up mentally sometime in October.

I think you can't blame Souness or Shepherd about the transfer window. Souness has bought well since he joined I think. Boumsong is great and hopefully Scotty P and Emre will be too. The truth is we have got fight to get in the UEFA and players know that, some will be waiting till we qualify to commit to the club.
Anelka - he would not be my first choice but could be very good if it is true his attitude is better, I agree let's not spend too much
Boa Morte - Souness wants him, he wants to leave and Fulham have said they will sell, this is all just posturing at the moment, he will be a Newcastle player next year.
Owen - we will end up with either Owen of Figo, I am sure of it, Real owe us money and they have just bought another striker.
Let's go after Miguel for the back as well, if indeed we get Moore.

I blame Shepard for not finding a suitable replacment for Big Al. We should've had some in last year (oh I forget it was Kliuvert) it's not like we didn't expect him to retire. What the hell would we do if Shearer did leave at the end of the year. Dyer would be our #1 striker with Shola and Chops right behind him. Thats unacceptable.
Yes I like the Boumsong and Parker signings and I hope Emre is equal to the hype, but my worry with Souness is that he knows he doesn't have a lot of time and he's going to try and sign a famous name to placate the fans and press without giving consideration to the type of person that he will be bring into the club.

We did not know Bellamy was gonna call the manager a liar last year though did we? It might all have been so different now if for that. We may have quaylified for Europe, we may already have some big signings in the bag, we just don't know......we are definately not finished in the transfer market.
