Which of the cities would you like to see in the MLS next and why?

My choice would be for another team in the NYC Area and a team in Philadelphia. The second team in NY could create the sort of rivalry in NY that MLS is trying to grow in LA. A team in Philadelphia would create instant rivalries with both NY teams, NE and DC. I think Sports fans in these areas are natural rivals.

Toronto would be good too.

With the news of the new SSS being built in Vancouver, I think they have a very good cahnce getting into the MLS.

Rochester and Milwaukee are 2 areas that I want to see get teams. The Rhinos deserve one for the years of strong fan support, and I want to see a rivalry with the city up north. Plus Peter Wilt will be heading up that team so I have another reason to want to see a team there.

I am sure there are other cities that deserve a team as well, maybe the best way to address that is to build the PSL into a viable 2nd division and have a promotion system, not nec. a relagation system as well, but when MLS is ready to expand, then take the team that has the best fan support, record, things like that.

I agree with Scarecrow ... Rochester or Milwaukee are deserving of a place. MLS need to reward fans and not just plump for the owner who will stump up the most cash. Without starting another debate, the most attractive option would be a straight forward promotion/relegation system, because nothing fires up fans (speaking as a European) like a promotion or relegation battle. I think the No1 USL team would stand a chance in MLS and likewise if a team were relegated from MLS they'd stand a decent chance of coming up again.

Agreed. Or San Antonio.

Houston (population 1.9 million) has the Texans, the Rockets, the Astros.

San Antonio (population 1.4 million, tan hispano) has the Spurs ... and the AA Texas League Missions.

Reliant Stadium in Houston has proven to be a great spot to host games - not just this latest Gold Cup but the spring 2004 "friendly" between the Nats and Mexico. (see pic)

Although it is rather large, I think a market like Houston or San Antonio can draw at least a 20,000 average for MLS. But apparently I missed that San Antonio and MLS ended talks...

Well obviously I think Rochester should be in the MLS. We have earned it more than any other of the cities that the MLS will give a chance. We have a stadium 20,500 seats 17,500 will be permenant, just as nice at the HDC when finnished and 100 times nicer than CCS. 11,000 fans per match and with MLS we could draw 14,000 easily.

There was talk here in Toronto about us getting an MLS expansion team. It only makes sense, Toronto is the 5th biggest city in North America (Mexico City #1). Toronto definitely has the population as the GTA (Greater Toronto Area) exceeds 5 million. Toronto also has a huge ethnic community and I think an MLS team would draw well here. Hopefully the MLS comes through and brings an expansion team this way.

With the flailing metros in jersey, it would not surprise me to see NYC get a team. I actually think a cosmos return is possible.

Portland!!!! Smart segment of fans thanks to Clive Charles and University of Portland's successes. Enormous success in past events...see usnt games played there....look at portland timbers success....also huge international (mexican) community. Lack of sports franchises would give people an option that they so desperately want.

This has been discussed around here numerous times, as I understand it the name has to be purchased first. About $3 Mil if I am not mistaken is what the guy who owns the name is asking.

According to Don Garber, Toronto is the front runner for a 2007 expansion. He will be in Toronto to talk with the Leafs tomorrow. He will also met Peter Wilt in Milwaukee in August.

Agreed. There's one a hop skip and a jump across the river. Why don't the NYC fans that want a team go support one that is already nearby.

Next.
