Thought this was a brilliant move on either (1) MLS's behalf as part of his transfer fee or (2) Richard Motzkin's behalf as part of his personal contract to bake in a trip to play in the U.S., presumably against MLS squads. While certainly not perfect, MLS continues to make smart decisions in many circumstances (viz. World Cup TV rights, 2003 Women's World Cup, etc.).

STEVE, IT'S A BUSY PRE-SEASON CALENDAR, WHAT WERE YOUR THOUGHTS AS A MANAGEMENT TEAM WHEN YOU PUT THE SCHEDULE TOGETHER?

Well, as a contractual obligation with Brian McBride we had to take in an American trip, which is great, but because we have to go on a trans-Atlantic flight to play two games we decided to go for 10 days.

Exhibitions have been a part of a bunch of MLS deals, a lot of times as an easy way to get a guy from a USL team. It really is pretty shrewd.

Wasn't part of Lothar's deal the friendly the Metros played against Bayern Munich?

The Wizards played a friendly in Rochester on August 26th, 2002 as part of the deal that brought Onandi Lowe to Kansas City.
