Great signing by Rafa and the Reds. Our attack is even more formidable now. Reds have the depth they lacked last year. We have a solid defence, a midfield with class, pace and ideas, and finally three world class striker. And what makes this even better is hes an englshman.

I didnt think the price was right but its a done deal so what the heck.
I think having a 6-8 frame will be interesting to watch. He can hook into some good thru balls from Gerrard and Xabi especially in the air. Also from Cisse.
We definately have a better team then last year--
Adding Reina, Sissiko and now Crouch. These are definately going to be getting a lot of minutes and hopefully make a big difference.
Welcome Crouch, now knock some goals in, tall fella.

I think Rafa will use Crouch in mostly EPL games unless there is an injury crisis....Lets hope the team doesn't fall into the same situation as it did last year.
He knocked in 16 for Soton' last year and they were relagated. I am pretty sure Rafa knows what he is doing. Crouch will not be a bust nor will he ever be world class, but I'm sure he'll knock in some important goals during the upcoming EPL season.

I really have to wonder if this was such a wise signing. I've never been a big fan of Crouch and lords knows that those sticks of his could crumble at any second. Why are people so high on him? Personally, I think we could have done better.

See, this is what I'm worried about. To my knowledge, Crouch has never had a better campaign than he did last season. What if it is a complete aboration? After all, Saints were garbage last year. Someone had to score, right?

I understand what you are saying about someone having to score for them, but still, no one is going to give up free goals. He had some work that he needed to do. He has a good head and for a guy who is 6'7 his feet aren't bad.

Given the choice of tall strikers... Crouch or Jan Koeller, I'd take Koeller, but Crouch would do. I think he'd be great for getting some goals in the EPL season and perhaps Carling Cup, etc. Interesting signing, no doubt!

On behalf of all Crystal Palace and Norwich fans ...
thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou!!
By overspending on the freak of nature that is Peter Crouch, you have made our attempt to bounce back into the premiership that much easier. Redknapp gambled everything on staying up and now has had to gut the team.
And by spending 7 mill on him, you helped insure that any sale of Andy Johnson, unwanted though it may be, will fetch crap load more.
Cheers to our friends in red

Norwich City had three 7 goal scorers last year. 21 goals of a 42 EPL total.
Crouch scored 12 of 42 EPL goals. Thats better than 25%.
Clearly someone will score goals, but there's a big difference btwn 7 goals and 12.
Both sides were relegated, but Crouch meant more to his team.

I am not sold on this move.
However, I think we will see Crouch used in the premiership matches and Morientes more in European play. The rotation system and depth comes into play here I suppose.
After seeing the crosses Zenden was whipping in today, Crouch will have a field day with those.

Precisely.
I've never been excited about a potential Crouch move, but obviously it's something that Rafa felt was necessary. He's proven he can score goals in the Prem and hopefully his numbers will stay about the same. I'd be ecstatic if he scored 12 goals for us in the league this year.
If nothing else Crouch is someone to throw in if we want to change things up. He's certainly a unique player.
As far as Koeller goes...that dude is old. Crouch is 24 and has a lot left in the tank. I'm curious to see if Rafa wants to try out a Baros/Crouch partnership (assuming Baros stays). Certainly it's something to try in Carling Cup matches and the like.

They said that about Heskey and I watched him desimate Roma. We also won a Uefa cup off the back of him and Owen as a partenrship.

I just wrote a post on this very subject.
.....
What do you reckon ?
24 years old, scored 16 goals in 33 games in a top flight league. Can hold the ball up has a very good touch excellent in the air and works hard.
What exactly isn't to like about Crouch? I've been thinking about this recently and as usual got talking to one of my mates about it and it turned into a bit of a debate. I've never had anything against Crouch personally but I would prefer Kuyt at least I thought I would until I actually thought about it.
Kuyt isnt the tallest player about hes not the most skillful and hes not proven in the prem. He gets most of his goals cos of his effort. This isn't a bad thing but Paul Dickov gets his goals cos of his effort, wanna spend 10 million on him ?
Don't get me wrong I like Kuyt I think he COULD be an excellent prem player but we just don't know. Surely better to spend the money on a proven to a point young english player who is improving all the time and has a record of near 1 goal in every 2 at a relegation team?
Do people (myself included) just see a big name or a foreign player and assume that there a better option?
Ive seen all kinds of shite written about Crouch on here. He's not an alehouse footballer hes not ******** and hes not just there to win the ball in the air.
Cisse needs to prove himself although with the amount of talent he has you would expect him to!
Morientes is world class and will prove himself I have no doubt of that.
Baros IF he stays has proven with a big man to play of he will get you goals and its all about confidence for him really.
Im prepared to give Crouch a chance if the man I rate as the best manager in Europe says he has a part to play in Liverpool F.C now the question is are you?
If the answer is no ask yourself why not.

Certainly,Crouch has alot to prove. He has to show his worth ,cause 7 million is no small amount.I dont know what rafa has planed for crouch, and i hope it works. We have to give the lad a chance. If we gave players such as diouf, diao, josemi, ect a run of games for liverpool,i dont see any harm on giving crouch a bit of action this season. He is our TOP signing this season with 7 million(I think reina cost us 6),so he has to show his worth and prove himself to all of us.

I predict that crouch will keep on improving just like he did last year, for a few more years to go. In 3 years we will fighting off Real and Obromabitch to re-sign the guy to an extension.
say goodbye to the short corner. :)
i think what happened is, crouchy scored on us and rafa went to his mental notebook, as usual, but then discovered that there was no known way to actually stop this guy short of double-teaming him with a borrowed ladder. At which point he determined that fine, we'll have to have him then.
My gut instinct tells me this is a very good move. Rafa loves his tactics and having a guy like that gives him tons of options. Time will tell.

could crumble at any second. Why are people so high on him?Be honest. Was this pun intentional? :)
I ask this question in all seriousness: Is it possible that Crouch is perceived as a doubtful signing because the poor guy just looks weird? I mean seriously, he is severely lacking in grace of movement and naturally he might be perceived as having less quality because of it.
I spent all of last season making fun of Crouchy until we started to look at him as a possible transfer. I then watched the Fullham v. S'ampton match over again (please see my previous post on this) and thought to myself, "Wow, this guy looks weird but he can sure hold the ball up, head, and move the ball quicker than I've seen Baros do at times."
In reading the posts it seems like most of us agree that 7 mil was a bit steep, but I for one am very excited to see what Crouch can contribute.
Question: Will Crouch's official numbered shorts come in actual size? I'm looking to replace my wind sock. :D
