Hey i'm 20 yrs old, im very good playin soccer, (played for my varsity soccer team two years ago, scored in 18 games 12 goals) . I started playing soccer as a goalie, but when i was really young (probably 10 yrs old) at one practice, i was playing as a striker just for fun, my coach told me to give up as a goalie because my height wouldnt help me and from that day i started playing as forward. yeh thats what i did, never got into professional level, but its all good. Two weeks ago, I joined a team, and like yesterday i played goalie, and i was surprised with myself that i still had good reflexes, i want to go back as a goalie, even though im good at playin striker , most of my friends thinks im crazy because im 2 short, so i dont what to do!!!! im 1.71 m ( dunno whats my heigh in inches tho, probably 5'6 i dunno) , so what do u think? as a goalie or striker?

PS: i could still scores goals as a goalie, hmm freekicks, hehe, but they say im too short to be in the goal :(.

Play where you feel most comfortable man, our goalie is your height and he kept 9 clean sheets last season.

You are just over 5 foot 7! Ive been a keeper all my life and no one has said in the last few years Im too short, and Im 5 foot 5! :o

I know alot of keepers who play in goal for 11 a side then play up front indoors for 5 a side.

What ever you enjoy really, best of luck to you.

if you like playing keeper check out goalkeeperzone.com

playing keeper does take skill and a lot of hardwork but anyone can be good. it doesnt matter how tall you are, its how well u can instruct your defense to prevent yourself from actually making a save. being a good shot stopper is nice to though

Yes, must mention the KeeperZone website for all keepers. Best forums out there for keepers.

Some of the best goalies in my leagues are shorter guys. They're quick as hell, and most importantly, they play the angles and positioning correctly. Forget height, it's one of very few things in life you can never acheive if you're not born with it.

Work on your positioning and angles and you'll be golden. Also being confident on the ball when it's at your feet is a huge plus.

It's funny, it's not unusual for some of the more "unskilled" soccer players in my leagues to be goalies. We have obvious standouts who are exceptionally good as both goalies and field players, but I feel like you can't be a truly effective goalie unless you have experience playing the field. You have to know where people are, what an attacker is thinking, what his options are, etc etc etc.

Glad to hear you rocked!
