Dortmund: Jensen Is The 12th Transfer Away From BVB – Personnel Roster Is Very Thin

Metzelder Speaks Clearly: “A Very Tough Season!”

+++++++++++++

For sport director Michael Zorc, the frustrating 1:1 against Olmütz wasn’t a question of class, “because indiscipline is in the head”. And yet, the first match that counts for the “rehabilitating” BVB showed how dangerous the chosen path with these overburdened player can become.

+++++++++++++

The starting eleven does not stand up to the previous team. Buckley lacks the qualities of an Ewerthon and Degen does not strengthen the defense. And on the bench sits: Brzenska (21), Odonkor (21), Caliskan (18), Sahin (16), Hünemeier (19) and Gambino (21). Just before today, Danish defender Niclas Jensen (30) was registered as the 12 departure of the summer. BVB now saves his salary and banked about 700,000 Euros from FC Fulham. The line between economic necessity and sporting interests are at the breaking point. Trainer BvM is aware of the dangers, however, he’s aggressively confident: “I want to make the UEFA Cup.” “It’s important to the club.”

How this thin team will end up after dealing with three competitions, no one knows. However, BvM can only hope for the return of Kehl (Ankle Injury) and Ricken (Thigh). Both were important parts of the best second round in the history of the club.

On cue, Christoph Metzelder used the shock of the blown UI-Cup opening match opportunity to speak clearly: "We know that can be an entirely difficult season in all aspects.” “It can also be good if everything fits." “Everyone on the team must now live to become better.” “More importantly, each good training session should help prevent injuries. “We must show that we wish to move ahead. Our path will not always go straight toward the top”. Whether the situation depends on the new players or not, Metzelder has his doubts. “I am no economist. We drove down the personally costs so the financial side is satisfied. Therefore, I see no possibilities we can reach the UEFA Cup.” Zorc says, “We’ve reached the limits”. Generally, Manager Hans-Joachim Watzke, states, something could be done with transfer fee players in the event of an emergency. Zorc: “However, presently, there are no plans for it.”

Can we afford anyone at all, are there any prospects or are we to rely on youth and hope to get by this season?

I think we COULD afford to bring one player in, maybe two with the budget the club planned for this season.

However, I think management is determined to gamble and go with the starting lineup with youth on the bench.

And even with that, 17 year old Sebastian Tyrala, a young midfield hopeful, is now out 6-8 months after suffering torn knee ligaments after a training collision with Jan Koller.

I think BVB should bring in one more taller striker and one more defender. But, they seem seriously ready to stand pat.

I'll say this and admit it's my hope rather than what I truly think will happen.

If we don't get past Olomouc on Saturday, I think BVB will seriously consider selling Jan Koller before the season starts.

And I think we should. Every indication he's given is that he doesn't plan to extend with Dortmund. Koller has made it clear he wants to play with a club who is a perennial Champions League participant.

When he first joined Dortmund, that was the case. It isn't anymore.

BVB management and fans are pinning their hopes on Koller's love of Dortmund and the club winning out.

I don't think so. His upcoming contract will more than likely be the final one of his career. I believe he just got married last year. He's going to be looking for the biggest contract he can get and he won't get that in Dortmund.

I really think BVB should sell him. With the financial problems the club has, they can't afford to just let him walk for nothing.

Thats the last person you want to collide with in the training ground...ouch, tough break for the youngster.
