I've heard alot of different opinions on the GC in many different threads that were kind of off topic. I'ld like to get US fans' take on the GC as a whole so far. Pretty wide open, so have at it.
my opinion is that I've enjoyed it, definitely more than the last one. That could be because of the lead up to WC '06 next year, but the play overall was better than i expected. definitely had it's share of upsets so far, I think I have a biased opinion there when I say that in a favorable way :) . Walking away from the group play in first place by putting our C team (debateable i'm sure) out there, makes me even more anticipating the rest of our Quali's and WC '06

I definately have enjoyed the GCup games. It's not CopaAmerica or Euro Champs, but it's not a bad tournament.
But it has definately put a major strain on MLS. I hope one day they will crack the code so there can be a summer break in MLS.

It's a tough call for sure. I admit it's been better than I thought, and I may be eating crow if we win the thing. I guess it wouldn't be too bad if that happened. :D

Mixed feelings...
It's nice to see them play as always, but it seems like a meaningless tournament. Even if we win it does it really count for something? In my opinion the only way that this tournament will mean anything is if the teams participation bring their "A" teams and take it seriously.
Right now, the tournament is simply an opportunity for Arena to experiment in competitive matches. In my opinion he's able to do it with friendlies as well.
Can we move to CONMEBOL please!?

Its been pretty decent so far. Considering alot of bad teams in it. Honduras is playing out of their minds right now and the SAfricans gave a great showing. Im kinda dissapointed Mexico is out of it cause I really wanted to play them. Regardless , we will destroy the Colombians on Sunday :)

On the positive side, JOB is playing again
On the negative side, Dolo and Casey were injured.
The games haven't been too exciting but not bad over all. I had pretty low expectations.

I'll second that. I've been dreaming about the 16 team copa america for a long time. I really don't understand how the 16 team, every four year, CopaAmerica uniting Conmebol/Concacaf hasn't come to pass. Wouldn't require uniting the confederations for world cup quals or club events. Just a joint tournament. Seems like the biggest slam dunk around.

Having zero TV coverage, and (from what it sounds like) fairly indifferent performances despite the results, this tourney has been one giant ball of apathy for me.

I've enjoyed it, particularly my time in The Fort with Sams' Army.
I'm still pissed a Donovan for not acknowledging his chant when he was warming up directly in front of us. Just the opposite from Keller, who waved several times.

I can't understand the whining at all- it is our regional championship, the games have been good, some new teams have emerged( Panama) , some older ones have crashed( Mexico) and Arena has seen some new and semi-new faces. What is not to like?:)

the US itself: uneven ...did not like Cuba nor Canada's games.... but picked up steam vs. CR, and mainly vs. Jamaica..Hope we can follow through with that upward trend vs. Honduras, whom we must not understimate...
As to the tourney itself... had lots of fun watching:
JAm-South Africa.
Panama-South Africa
Panama-Colombia
Honduras-Costa Rica
Colombia Mexico :D
Last 2 US games (especially the last one)
Panama, great heart..quite a surprise ....I was pulling for them and for that fantastic geezer Dely Valdez :) ......Same for Honduras and some of their technical ability... SA and Colombia (even with their B-C teams) seemed to have been good additions which raised the tourney's entertainment value.. if not, watch Colombia's first half display vs. Mexico....completely erased them off the field...really entertaining :)
Overall a C+/B-... which was more than i really expected, quite honestly....It's been fun... and it should only get better these last couple of matchdays.... Having Donovan and Beasley work well together can only do wonders for the US.... Hope they keep it up!

I'm not whining.
I'm just finding it extremely hard to care.

Been fun. Biased by the fact I got to go the Seattle games, seeing my 4 and 5th USMNT games live. Not the best performances by the US team but wins and fun none the less. As a side note Donovan has scored at least one goal in every game I have been at personally that he is in, so I think he should pay my way to Germany. ;) Any way it has been fun and as I have Telefutura not to frustrating. Also it is great to see JOB he has been one of my favorites for some time.

I was really PSYCHED for this Gold Cup from the beginning but even so, IMHO the quality of play has been very solid.
From a US fan point of view, we started pretty poorly but have improved & I thought played our best game v Jamaica. Hopefully, we have 2 more great games left in us & we can come away with the 2005 Gold Cup Title!!!
I'm just a bit disappointed that we won't be playing (and BEATING) Mexico in the final. I'm also a bit baffled that Quaranta, who I thought was our best player v Cuba) has not received more PT. IMO he earned a much longer look by Bruce. On a HUGE positive note, it's been awesome to see JOB back in action with the USMNT & looking very solid and what can be said about Keller that hasn't already been said!!
Overall, the Gold Cup may not be the "best tournament" but it's the only one CONCACAF has, at least for now, and the 2005 version has been impressive!!
