What will the attendance be for Thurs. semifinal games at Giants Stadium? NYC is a big market so hopefully we'll get a decent crowd. This is what I expect:

10k US supporters (going primarily to support the US)
12k Colombian "
10k Hondurans "
5k Panamanians "

So I predict anywhere between 30k and 40k. And if the final is between the US vs Colombia 40k+. What does everybody else think?

i think if they would have put a 3rd place game they could have drawn a bigger crowd for the final.

25k for the semis and 30k for the final

I'd be shocked if there's less than 40,000 for Thursday's games. For God's sake, this is the first time the American team has been at Giants Stadium in years. If the homegrown don't turn out for this, they've got a lot of explaining to do around here. Prices are certainly reasonable enough.

Granted, with Mexico biting the dust turnout won't be the what it could have been. But I'll bet a decent amount of tickets were pre-bought and there'll still be Mexican representation in the stands. I wouldn't think of not attending (I've been loud on these boards about the U.S. team never bothering to come to Giants to play, so I almost feel committed to being there).

The question is: By how much will the Americans in the stands be outnumbered? And how many will ankle after the first game (especially if they go down).

I'll predict 45,000 for the semifinals. The matchups look intriguing, but it would be a surprise if the USA and Colombia failed to meet in the final. Having said that, this has been a topsy-turvy tournament so far, as Panama knocked off Colombia to begin the tournament, while the US looked lacklustre in its first 3 games. Honduras took advantage of Costa Rica's mistakes to post a win, and Mexico stumbled out of the blocks against South Africa. Obviously, Group A proved to be the Group of Death, while Group B was the weakest of the three.

Attendance has been disappointing so far, with the notable exception of Mexico in Houston.

I'm going low with 22,500 for Thursday. No Mexico will have a large (negative) impact.

Well, if the final had been USA-Mexico, as desired, this would be moot. But I do agree with your idea, as I'd like the USA to play twice, no matter what!

Don't be shocked. It is a Thursday, without media build-up & short notice match-ups. Many Mexicans probably held off, planning to buy day-of-game. Those that didn't might not turn up, which will hurt atmosphere. Even if US fans are outnumbered, we can still enjoy ourselves & make a lot of noise.
P.S. Did you mean amble instead of ankle?

Attendance has been pretty good. Where else in CONCACAF other than Mexico could you get those kind of figures?

What will hurt today's walk-up crowd is the early 6:00 p.m. kickoff for the US match. I'll be there, but tough for those who work late or work in the city.

I was expecting better than crowds of 12K like what Seattle saw for international doubleheaders, esp the ones the US were involved in.

No, I definately meant ankle.

It's a term (coined by Variety, I believe) referring to people who leave a show or movie early.

You mean tomorrow (Thursday). We don't want anyone heading out there today!

You think? (seriously) .....If one was to compare the NJ/NY population of Colombians compared to Mexicans....is there that big a difference? Just wondering..as i have no census numbers on me....

... Obviously, Group A proved to be the Group of Death, while Group B was the weakest of the three.

Sometimes survivors from the group of death don't survive very long and the victors from the easy group do well.

Cases in point:

WC02 Group of Death: survivors Sweden and England with Argentina and Nigeria.

WC02 Easiest (?) group: Brasil, Turkey, Costa Rica, and China

WC98 Easiest (?) Group: Argentina, Croatia, Jamaica, and Japan

You're way off...Hondurans will flock to this game...expect somewhere around 15,000+ Hondurans. As for the other teams, here are my predictions:
Colombia: 12,000
USA: 8,000+
Panama: 7,000

Attendance will be in the 45k range

Some Honduran newspaper is reporting there will be more than 20k Hondurans at Giants stadium. That would translate in an attendance figure of 50k+ ...guess we'll know later today.

I'll be leaving my home in about 45 minutes to head for Giants. Make sure I'm there nice and early to avoid problems with crowds, security and all that jazz. They might be real pains in the butt after what happened in London the other week and this morning. (They're going to start doing random backpack searches on the New York City subway starting tomorrow!)

Let's all have fun and go for 50,000+ tonight!!!

41K+. Odd thing is, it was spread out over 2 games. The first game was a sea of Honduran blue. Then, after the first match ended, it turned into a sea of yellow.

The lower level was mostly full, there were a fair number of folks in the 2nd level, but the upper deck was empty.
