Switala states that Cherundolo surgery will not be necessary for the 26-year old, and will remain in the US for the next fourteen days before returning to Germany.
Heh I didn't know that he had a surgery named after him. Good thing he doesn't require it to fully recover from this injury. ;)

Never has a sprain sounded better; no surgery required is very good news. Get well soon, Steve.
But I might not call off my boycott of Red Stripe just yet.

I hope Cherundolo recovers quickly and fully. We definitely need this guy out there in Germany.
But for now, we've got to finish off the job for qualifying: who's going to step up to take Dolo's spot? Or are we just going to go with a three back set and use our depth in midfield?
It's hard to imagine a first choice starting lineup without him out there.

~JustinYou can tell YA.com was in quite the hurry to get this out. In their first paragraph, they failed to identify whom they were talking about. Here's the graph:
USMNT and Hannover 96 defender ??? will be out of action until at least September after having been evaluated following the brutal foul suffered on Saturday against Jamaica.
I added the question marks. Now, we all know who they're talking about, but it's kinda funny they forget to actually write the guy's name!

As much as people knock Frankie Hejduk, this is a spot where it's good to have him around.
He's been here before, he knows what to do...he's a solid backup who's going to be in excellent condition.
Also, Bruce likes Chris Albright too...I expect to see him in for the T&T game.

I would love to see a 3-5-2 more often for two reasons. One would be our current backfield depth and the other being something discussed in another thread -- it would give DMB (or DFB) a little more freedom if he were moved to inside right or left midfield in the formation. He'd be free to stay forward a lot more.

I could live with a back line of Boca, Gooch, Gibbs and Surfer...

I suppose I could too, but the Heydude should retire threads are definitely going to get cranking when the qualies come up.

Hopefully, we only need two more quallies anyway (which certainly would make the management at Hannover96 very happy)

Yeah no kidding. I wonder who they'll call for in his place? Probably some obscure defender playing reserve ball in Luxemborg or Austrailia that they've never seen.

I suspect this means dolo misses the next three hex matches....
still, it'll be a good opportunity to play without him, and it looks like hejduk is a virtual lock....would be nice to get a look at some one else, and I do wonder after the mexico match whether hejduk would double back...
I do agree about 3-5-2.....
might see that august 17 against t&t...

Well, this is good news for Steve. I had actually feared the worst because seeing that tackle I thought his knee was torn up for sure. Here's to a speedy, full recovery.

Reyna for right back. I think he played that position succesfully once before vs. Mexico.

We might see a 352 but I think it far more likely we see right back manned by either Hedjuk or Albright, with Frankie far more likely for the next two (vs T&T and Mexico) to try to get qualification done early. After that we may see a fair amout of Albright.
BTW it will be interesting to see what Arena does at LB if Hedjuk is slotted in on the right. Will he play Vanney or Boca or maybe even Convey? (There's no cahnce that Ward will play important qualies. (Maybe, again after we qualify.)

Hejduk is suspended for Trinidad, as is Pope. So I would say that chances of seeing Albright are pretty good.

I believe Chris Albright is still injured...he hasn't played for LA in a while anyway.

Well at least they'll both be available for Mexico. Albright won't be a bad selection for a home tie against T&T.

I may be mistaken, but I think I read an article that slates Albright to be in the lineup for the Galaxy tonight against Real Madrid.
