Some of you guys wondered why he bought some players. Will they sit on the bench most of the season? Surelly with 60 or more games in a season there will be plenty of room for every one of the top players to play. Mourinho always liked to have 2 good players in each position, and this season he's taking care of that, so that a situation like the winger injuries wont happen again. He just missed Essien, the top quality natural Makelele competitor - too expensive this season

Centre Back/ Left Back
W.Gallas

i would add *Right Back* as well.

Gallas is actually much better on the right, than on the left, though he didn't play in the position at all last year. in truth he is a verrry right footed player.

Right Winger
(Duff)
SWP
Cole

is that Joe Cole? Joey don't play on the right. left flank or in the centre, but not RW.

Hell of a team, and it doesnt even include the new signing Diara.. Difficult to see where Eissen will play if Lyon let him go.. Much better than last year with all positions are covered.

Much better than last year with all positions are covered.Essien would be the fourth midfielder, after Lampard, Makelele, and Gudjohnsen. If Guddy plays up front as the lone striker, then Essien would get a start. And of course if anyone's injured, needs a blow, or is away playing a WC qualifier, Essien would start.

Jose wants to win all four trophies this year. We lost to Newcastle and Liverpool in the two tourneys because we were missing key personnel. He's not gonna let that happen again.

Essien would be the third midfielder (certainly preferred in the big games) as he provides more of the defensive balance that Jose is looking for Gudjonsen will be useful when we play the teams that "park the bus".

He is right footed, and he did play a lot there last season, and thats where he played against benfica.

I dont think this season he'll stand much of a chance of playing in the left flank considering the other options, but in the right side he may have a shot.

(Robben – he hardly ever defends anyways)

ONE of the thousands of possible line-ups and permutations. Unlikely but both Duff and Robben have been used as part of a front two. Robben seems the more logical as he hardly ever defends anyways. . .

Is Gudjohnsen a midfielder?

Is Gudjohnsen a midfielder?

he was often used as an attacking midfielder late last season... or played behind the striker... he played real well in that role as well.

Actually, I think Cole is left footed.

SWP needs to be tested and then we can say if he deserves to play.
People flop and badly. This has happen to even the best of players. maradona, KEZMAN, Drogba, Veron etc.

Duff is my favourite Chelsea player. when Claudio bought Robben I raised an eyebrow because we already had a world-class player. I still admire him over Robben and think he should play. plus he's more helpful in D than 16.A.Robben

Drogba flopped?

SWP is already proven inthis league, its a completely different situation and a bad comparison.

The more I look at it, the more I like that line-up, have to find some room for Joe Cole and Eidur as subs and we're good to go. Oh, and Bridge instead of Del Boy for now. . .
