Everyone has their taste...but there is no way, no argument, that Wes Borland is ranked higher than Tom Morrello on any list. Tell what sound Borland developed?
Yeah Morrello is an awesome guitarist.

I second Pete Townshend. Not only is he a brilliant songwriter, he has the uncanny knack of playing rhythm and lead at the same time.

I agree with the John Squire of the Stone Roses, but I have two more to add to the list that have been missed.

My personal number 1:
Johnny Greenwood- Radiohead

Another:
Graham Coxon- formerly of Blur

OK, here goes... these aren't necessarily the best, just my favorites:

1.) Jerry Garcia
2.) Trey Anastasio
3.) The Edge

Um, your #1 pick is problematic. His new gig w/ "The Dead" really took it to the next level. I have to say although I've never been a huge GD fan, it's more because their fans are a complete ass-whipping and a half. JG was an unbelievable musician, however.

Stanley Jordan? Yngwie Malmsteen (does it even matter whether I spelled it correctly? :) )?.

um, PG, might want to put the alcohol down my man. Your judgement is clearly misguided.

phirst, what "new gig"? Correct me if I am wrong but Jerry passed 8.9.95.

secondly, the phact that you are stereotyping "their fans" as a "complete ass whipping and a half" (really, that is the best you could come up with for hippies?) prooves you know nothing about Jerry and more specifically the jam scene.

thirdly, fyi...some people actually go/went to see the dead phor the music (me included)

Now I understand the dead and jambands aren't for everyone. But if you are name dropping YM and SJ you clearly aren't an idiot so why post comments that make you appear is if you are?

It's Jerry's B-day today, holmes. I'm sorry, but I couldn't let you insult the integrity of the second greatest guitarist ever.

Larry Carlton

I second that. Larry Carlton and Steely Dan went together like peas and carrots.

I have to second this. May not be the rock stylist people think of when you have the "greatest guitar debate" but, man the guy is amazing.

How about B.B. King?

Gotta love Santana too. There is something to be said about someone you can recognize by hearing the man play a few notes. Just such a distinctive style.

Rock...I have to come back to Eddie. The man did some amazing things.

And as a bassist, I only put one band's sticker on my case and that was Red Hot Chili Peppers in ackowledgement that Flea was at a level not to be seen again.
