Here is a match report:
Liverpool too hot to handle
Paul Freier suffered a broken nose
Bayer 04 Leverkusen paid for the absence of half a dozen regular starters in their friendly against Champions League winner Liverpool FC and slipped to a 3-0 defeat. 20 million Euro striker Djibril Cissé put the match watched by 11,000 spectators in Lustenau out of Leverkusen’s reach in the first half.
Klaus Augenthaler stuck to his promise of giving Tom Starke a chance in goal and the Bayer goalkeeper can’t be blamed for the defeat.
With numerous regular starters missing Bayer were no match for the Champions League winners and to make matters worse Paul Freier had to be substituted after only three minutes after breaking his nose.
Cissé double
The Liverpool defence only allowed Bayer two meagre chances before the break but Andrej Voronin failed to cash in. Liverpool didn’t make the same mistake with Djibril Cissé scoring twice inside 60 seconds.
Czech international Milan Baros did even more damage after the break to make it 3-0. Liverpool decided to change the whole team at half-time, whereas Augenthaler gave talents Cataldo Cozza, René Schnitzler, Thomas Hübener and Timo Röttger a chance.
Bayer 04: Starke, Castro, Callsen-Bracker, Madouni (69’ Hübener), Athirson (46’ C. Cozza), Freier (3’ Barnetta), Babic (46’ Rolfes), Krzynowek (72’ Röttger), Voronin, Franca (46’ Schnitzler)
Goals: 1-0, 2-0 Cissé (26’/27’), 3-0 Baros (56’)

Looks like a game to forget. Some friendly huh?
