His old contract was valid till 2006. Salary raised from 1.4 Mio to 1.8 Mio Euro (rumours).

Imho that is a big step in securing the team's future. Now we need to get players like Kehl, Koller etc. to resign.

Sorry guys. I meant to post the English language article earlier. We had it on my list this morning.

Manoj, we want players like Kehl and Koller to "re-sign". If they were to "resign", they wouldn't be playing for us anymore! LOL!!! :)

"Resign" is equal to "Ruecktritt". ;)

The article in English......

Keeper Handed New BVB Deal
by Chris Ives - created on 13 Jul 2005

Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Roman Weidenfeller has signed a three-year extension to his current contract at the Westfalenstadion.

The 24-year-old former Kaiserslautern custodian replaced French rival Guillaume Warmuz between the posts during last season and played a crucial role in the Schwarz-Gelben's meteoric rise up the Bundesliga after Christmas.

Weidenfeller has now put pen-to-paper on a new deal keeping him at BVB until June 2009.

The club will be hoping that his decision will set a trend within the squad with negotiations with other key players such as Jan Koller, Sebastian Kehl and Christian Worns about to begin.

Yeah, should have been "re-sign" or "sign a new contract". I am getting older... :-(

Great move. Thought he was a bit shaky at times, but the second half of the season wouldn't have gone nearly as well for BVB without him. He had a couple of excellent matches when I watched.

I feel we would have been near the bottom of the table without him this past season.......
