Yoss, you're making the mistake of assuming the people you're speaking to know what that word means. :)
My and my family's largely negative experience with lawyers has (mostly) no bearing on my attitudes towards nicephoras, yossarian, or any other mouthpieces in our midst. Unless there is some sort of subconscious thing going on, in which case I claim no responsibility for any foaming at the mouth. :D

I have no problem with lawyers some of my closest friends are lawyers......My issue is with that jackass Nicephoras.....It has nothing to do with his profession it has to do with him being a total pompous dickhead......

 People's attitudes towards lawyers never bother me. Anyone who's not in the financial industry doesn't even know what I do - people hate what other lawyers do. I'll let Yossarian handle that one. ;) Its my distinct professional goal never to appear in a courtroom, unless I'm dragooned into pro bono work.

Like someone once said, everyone hates lawyers but who is the first person you call when you get into real trouble. In my opinion, the problem isn't lawyers as much as a society that initiates litigation at every opportunity. In such a society a large amount of lawyers is necessary. (For the record, I'm not a lawyer.)

Well, folks watch enough Law & Order and assume that's what all lawyers do. Luckily the show's quality has decreased significantly over the past few seasons...

Law and Order used to be much better when it was a redux of Constitutional Law cases abot search and seizure. It sucks now that its the "ripped from the headlines" crap. Plus Sam Waterston is starting to get kind of annoying now. My work is, ah, a bit different.

While that is true to a large extent ... this society has become this way because lawyers are writing the laws, interpreting the laws and well, making it necessary to litigate every aspect of our lives. Of course they are the first that we call when we're in trouble because your in bigger trouble if you don't. It's not like there is a choice.
No one is ever responsible for themselves anymore ... there is always someone else to be held responsible for every misfortune.

Most "judicial legislation" stems from legislatures who can't write good laws. There are bills with legal holes you could drive a semi through.
