Stan Fischler, who is a pretty reliable source in hockeyland, says the CBA has finally been completed, with a final read-through by the lawyers all that stands in the way of an official announcement being made.
All I can say is, halle-********in-lujah.

I'll believe it when I see it.
The fact that it took this long is simply deplorable. All just a short two months before the 2005/2006 season starts. Not quite taking it to the wire but the NHL probably lost too many fans in that short interim.
I don't think half of them will be back.

I'm just disgusted that the deal back in the winter was better for tha players than what they are being offered now. Serves 'em right I guess.

I actually think the fact that this deal isn't as good for the players is not necessarily a bad thing. It might actually avert the possibility of this happening again a few years down the road.
That being said, it's gonna take me a looooooooong time to warm back up to this league. This coming from someone who lived and breathed NHL hockey for the last 25 years or so.

This gem from Manny Legace was interesting:
"It makes no sense what we ended up doing," Legace said. "For years, Bob was telling us, 'No cap. Owners aren't telling us the truth about their books.' Then out of nowhere, he gives the owners a 24-percent rollback and it looked like we were panicking."
"Then after saying we wouldn't even consider a salary cap, he backed down on that at the last minute just before the lockout. It was too late, and now we're taking a worse deal."
Well, duh. Instead of looking at pre-2004/2005 revenue stream these organizations that were looking at a partial 2004/2005 season and it's figures are now looking at a potentially disappointing 2005/2006 revenue stream who's outlook gets worse every day these entities don't have a solution.
It was in the best interest of all parties to have the whole CBA dealt with before the 2004/2005 season starts. Best for the fans, duh. Best for the players and owners since the whole things revolves around money and doing anything to piss off the fans will reduce the amount of money they had to fight over. Instead they pissed away the CBA deadline, a partial season and an entire season just because they didn't have the collective intelligence to overcome greed and understand simple math.

I have my Nash jersey and was excited to see Zherdev and the new possibilities with the 2004/2005 class. I attended about 10-15 games last season they played and followed about every game on TV. But it will take me a little bit to get back on the wagon.
A hand written apology from Luke Richardson could be a start.

It will take me a little while to get back into the swing of things, unless the Jackets or Penguins get Sidney Crosby. :p

Here are some draft lottery details:

CBJ will have 3 balls (tied for most along with 4 other teams) in the hopper for the #1 overall pick.
I like our chances, since the hockey gods owe us so much it's not even funny. (I'll never forgive them for our #4 pick--#4!!!--in our first year of existence. What kind of league gives an expansion team the #4 overall pick!?!?!)

i guess neither side really won at all, the players screwed themselves, really.
i heard the deal was done early in the week but they didnt want to announce it cause of the baseball all star game...
irregardless, im a hockey nut, so no need for any wounds to heal to get me back into the swing of things.
i just hope we still have zherdev and nash (the first being the better of the two, IMO)

Jesus. If the CBJ's get Crosby -- they'd have Nash, Zherdev and Crosby.
That's be freaking incredible...

That would be incredible...we wouldn't have all three of them for long, though. HELLO, SALARY CAP!

True -- but for at least 3-4 years they would.
Nash will never leave Columbus as long as he's in the NHL.
McConnell will break his own piggy bank to make sure of it.
And with the salary cap it makes it a little easier.

That's true - and I have to disagree with OGHT, I think Nash is the better of the two.
That being said, comparing the two could be akin to comparing your two favorite pornstars - both great, just different assets ;)

I agree, Nash will be in Columbus for a looong time. We'll have Nash and 20 AHLers on the roster before MacLean lets him go.
If we get Crosby, we'll certainly become the "second favorite" team of damn near every hockey fan in Canada.
(On a side note--it was confirmed that there will be no All-Star Game this season, but NHL players will participate in the Olympics.)

If the NHL was MLS then Crosby would be packing for NY already.
