Vale's man makes mark

In a week of sporting surprises, Chris Birchall of Port Vale made football history, becoming the first white man to score a goal for Trinidad and Tobago. It happened in Miami on Wednesday in the Orange Bowl, in his country's opening Concacaf Gold Cup group game against Honduras.

I will do further research, but I think that this may be inaccurate.... in the mid 1900's T&T, Jamaica and most of the Carribean teams were dominated by white players. Maybe the article meant in modern times , i.e. post independence.

Trinidad wasn't affiliated with FIFA until 1963, so maybe that has something to do with it.

Try as I might, I cant find anything to confirm what I beleive....still think I am right though. In the 50's and 60's most representatives of the Island's national team (cricket in particular) were of European descent.

In the islands, race (for the most part) does not matter - or so we tell ourselves.
