Yeah, it's too bad with Müller. I hope he can get back, but that's such a long layoff for any player. But hey, if Metzelder can make it back...

To be honest, Metzelder was already a first team player for a long time...Muller has 7 games of Bundesliga experience, and while he showed great promise and skills (2 goals), he had already been back to the bench when Basturk came back last year, then he got his injury.

Well, Ballack should extend his contract with Bayern imo, just like Marcelinho should stay with Hertha. At their current club both are the undisputed star players, with their ( supposedly ) new clubs they'd be just another guy, possibly even keeping the bench warm. Seeing both players face the end of their career ( Marcelinho even more so, due to his age ) a transfer wouldn't do them any good.

Anyway, Boateng, while incredibly talented, is by no means ready yet to take the responsibility of a playmaker in Bundesliga. I'm not sure about Mueller, i kinda missed him completely, probably due to me spending the majority of the year in Africa.

In fact, i don't think Hertha necessarily needs a player of Marcelinhos skills to fill his position. It is leadership the side needs, something the Brazilian lately tends to lack.

Another comment on the striker issue though, I wouldn't be too concerned about seeing Nando go. He lacks the killer instinct. The real prospect is Okoronkwo, however as a Nigerian he needs to get his a°s kicked regularly. The Naijas are known to have genious moments but to be inconsistent. Being selected as a 17y old to accompany the best team at the U20 WC 2004 shows his potential, even if he got to play only a couple minutes ( check where his competition within the team plays at this point though :p )

Marcelinho is an incredible talent, but we do need leaders. Friedrich is a decent captain, but he's not the best leader. Niko Kovac and Dardai are good example leaders, but not really vocal. I think that a good run in die Bundesliga and the UEFA Cup will free up some money and we can get another decent striker/defender. However, Gravgaard seems to be an interesting preposition because he will come relatively cheaply (1-2 mio euros is my guess)...and if we decide to keep Pantelic permanently (which seems more and more likely), it'll only cost us about 275000 euros IIRC. Hertha are doing good business, quietly improving the team step by step with little money.

btw Cazlon, are you an Hertha fan? Or at least a well wisher? :D

Cazlon, are you an Hertha fan?

Well, I'm born like 60 km from Berlin, in the back then GDR ( East Germany ). When i moved to Berlin, there was not even the slightest notion the new capital might ever have a first division club. At the time I moved to Pretoria, Hertha was promoted. At the time my job moved me to Naija, Hertha entered the UEFA Cup for the first time.

No idea what i would score within the current Bundesliga fanship awards...I like Hertha for obvious reasons. I also do like Mainz and Doll's HSV for their philosophy, but Berlin will always be my first priority ( within Germany, that is ).

Anyway, i do agree Hertha is improving "quietly", and i do in fact like that pace. Is anyone seriously considering the club being a Champions League contender right now ? Yea, i didn't think so.

Keep Fathi, Boateng and Okoronkwo and Hertha just might be in a couple years.

I think we are Champions LEague contenders (as in 3rd place qualifiers)...we were very close last year, and we are better than we were last year. With a good run we can do well.

i tihnk we can do really well in UEFA Cup too...we have a deep squad.

Bundesliga outfit Hertha Berlin are keen to keep Josip Simunic and have offered the highly-rated Croatian international a contract extension.

The 27-year-old's current deal expires next summer and Hertha's managing director Dieter Hoeness admitted that his club is likely to face tough competition for the highly-regarded defender, who has been linked with a move to Serie A.

"Several other clubs are interested in him," revealed Hoeness, who is nevertheless confident that Simunic will remain at the Olympiastadion.

"Our club played an important role, helping him build a reputation of his own. Talks with him have just begun," the managing director added.

The giant defender started his career in Australia, where he featured for AIS Canberra and Melbourne Knights before he joined Hamburg in 1997.

Simunic struggled to live up to his promising potential at the AOL-Arena and did not seal his breakthrough until he opted to move to Berlin in the winter of 2000, where he quickly established himself as one of the most reliable defenders in Die Bundesliga.

If you asked me, they should've done this in the offseason. He's a key member of our team.

Good win today...Hertha dominated from beginning to end and deserved the 3:0...good to see Cairo back on the team, and Marx as well, our midfield is really coming along well :)

Also nice to Fathi score...I say that he is a great wing back, with the exception when he goes forward...very encouraging that he scored.

I hope Klinsi recognizes our other great fullback :)

Yes, Klinsi should call him and give him a chance.

VfB Stuttgart v. Hertha BSC Berlin

I'm very wary of this game. Stuttgart have good quality and are a good team despite their record. They will show up in this game and give us a good fight.

A point here and I will be satisfied. Of course, as always, I tihnk we are going to win ;)

Be happy with the draw, was a good match in 2nd half.

We had the lead twice...we should have shut them down, but all credit to Stuttgart, they kept on fighting. But it's still annoying when you give a late goal.

Meanwhile, we are drawn with St. Pauli in next round. Should be fun.

An entertaining match nonetheless. Cacau's and Ljuboja's goals were top-notch.

BTW, how did Neuendorf get the nickname Zecke?
