From the Olympian article:
"With three minutes left, Donovan kicked a penalty kick in front of the goal, curving in a shot around a wall of defenders to catch the left corner of the net."

*sigh* Another newbie soccer columnist. :)

US team mirrors Wambach - USA Today (http://www.usatoday.com/sports/soccer/national/2005-07-07-wambach-feature_x.htm?csp=34)

"With the USA now using three forwards instead of two under coach Greg Ryan, she's trying to find her niche in the 4-4-3 alignment."

No wonder they're doing so well. They have an extra person!

Or maybe just the no-goalie approach for 90 minutes. For chicks, that's ballsy.

From the Everett Herald:
"Donovan, whose girlfriend is from Seattle, fired a free kick from the top of the goal box into the left side of the net to break a tie with less than three minutes remaining and added another goal in the final seconds as the Americans shocked Cuba 4-1 on the first day of Group B play in front of 15,831 fans."

Everything is okay except for 'goal box'.

Well, the girlfriend mention is a bit odd too. It's the type of thing you'd expect to see in the "Style" section of the newspaper; not at the lead of a match report.
