I had to laugh when one of the teams listed as interested in him was Wigan. I mean..ugh.

Gomis is the only one who has been linked to us who would be as good as him, and he'll go to Newcastle or stay. It probably is Bobo replacing him.

In happier news, Mavuba may come. Supposedly.

I dont believe St. Etienne will sell Gomis to another French team. His price tag is too high. Diouf has to do everything he can to convince Cisse to stay. You dont know what you got until its gone. Cisse scored goals. Remember crap forwards like Giminez, Maoulida and Bamogo ?

Oh, I agree. I still want him to stay, if he will.

1) All players are mercenaries
2) French soccer is loser
3) French are historically late on everybody in everything.

Ask yourself why we are the only country in Europe who loses 11 European Cup finals on 13.

its true all players are mercenaries (they go where the money is)

french soccer doesn't nessecary suck. look at what monaco did with its talents in 2004 in a short span.i don't think we lack talent, ligue 1 is the 3rd supplier of soccer players in europe behind the brazillian and argentinian leagues. that says alot about our players

i've heard many things about french clubs. one is that they are heavely taxed, another one is, they are run by city council's who have no idea about running, investing in club. another, is that in the 70's french govt would not allow clubs to be run as businesses, therefore they could not compente with european clubs, not allowed to have accounts etc

seriously can't the clubs borrow money to invest to pay players to stay on the same levl as other clubs in spain, italy, and england

No, French clubs can't get into debts. I think it's a better thing than making 700M€ of debts by buying stars as Manchester does. That explains, too, why the C1 is what it is now: a guaranteed income that the big clubs absolutely need because they would go bankrupt without it.

Yes, French clubs were ran by the cities for decades. That's why there are no derbies in France (why would a council support two football clubs with public money ?) and that's why French football lacks of enterprise culture. The councils let the clubs being ran by their own only since the 90's.

I'm a big Mavuba/Marseille supporter, that combination would rock.

How strong is the rumor that he will end up at Marseille?

As far as players leaving France, it's one of the things I like about French football, the constant flow of talent. It's crazy. Though I don't see why someone like Cisse would leave to a mid-table club in the EPL(at best), Marseille fits him rather well.

Also, is Cana staying?

Diouf said that Cisse did not inform the club that he wants to leave and because he's under contract he said that the club decides his future and not him.

My hope is that Cisse's just venting to the press, and that he never formally comes to Diouf, and by the middle of July (or earlier) he comes and says that he'll stay. Doubt it happens, though.

Hilton is official, by the way. The only remaining barrier is his physical. The fee is thought to be between 4-5 million euros, and his contract will be for 3 years.

The Mavuba rumor seems pretty strong. He's said that if he goes to a French club, it will be Marseille. In addition, he's very good friends with Valbuena, which could help. It seems to be between him and a few others to fill a midfield spot, Peter Luccin came up yesterday as a rumor.

Cana's already been talking about next year's CL qualifiers, so he seems like he'll definitely be staying. A couple weeks ago I saw a Sunderland fan on another site talking about Cana possibly going there, and that made me kind of laugh. Maybe with some other guys, but I don't expect Cana to go unless it's a big club. Pretty much the only questions are Cisse, M'Bami, Ziani, and a few of the excess defenders. Well, and Nasri, but that's not much of a question.

In one or two years*, Cana will sign with Arsenal, Bayern, AS Roma, Real Madrid or so for 20-25M. :)

*He would have then lasted long for 4 or 5 years in the same club. I think that's the better thing a footballer should do.

I'll be fine with that if it happens, and I'll cheer him on at his next club. Hopefully we can win something before it happens.

On a similar note, supposedly Atletico Madrid is now a possibility for Nasri. I don't know how legitimate it is, though.

This probably isn't the best place for this, but I didn't want to start a new thread. Niang and Cisse (if he's still with the team) won't be suspended for the first leg of the CL qualifier.

Ha, no idea if this is true, but its... there. Laprovence has supposedly received information which would more or less mean Ben Arfa is coming. http://www.laprovence.com/articles/2008/06/20/492799-Region-en-direct-Information-La-Provence-dans-sa-tete-Ben-Arfa-est-a-l-OM.php#

We'll see if there is anything about it on the front page of tomorrow's paper in a few hours, I suppose. This is the type of claim that English tabloids always make.

There are some teams interested in Zenden who's not sure if he wants to stay or leave.

This is so typical of France and Ligue 1. Its very hard to get a guy like that to sit on the bench and not play like they do in the top leagues. Its too bad. Thats why you see stuff like Givet and Zenden possibly leaving. It weakens team depth and puts you at a disadvantage in Europe. In a perfect world you'd want both Givet and Hilton on the team to provide depth and strength at that position but in France its too hard. I really hope this isnt the same case with Kone and Cisse where its one or the other but I have my doubts.
