In news of the weird in Stephanie land-all the hotels that I have been looking at have been in Hyde Park-close to where a couple of bombs were today....and Sean and I were talking last night about taking double decker bus tours.......

I couldn't reply to all the hotel naming in the previous thread but your post is a convenient way to introduce the hotel I stayed at when I was in London to see the Gunners. I stayed at Jury's Inn Islington with a mate and his girlfriend and I'd recommend the place. They have rooms with a twin bed and rooms with a twinbed an extra single bed so there's a bit of flexibility there. The rooms a somewhat basic but I don't suppose that people want to spend too much time there anyway. However the hotel has a few very good selling points. First of it's just off Islington Highstreet where there's plenty of places to spend some hours during the night and it takes less than five minutes to walk down to Angel Station where there's a direct connection to Arsenal Station. And if you want walk to Highbury it takes around 30 minutes if you don't get lost, in which case it takes a lot longer and will prompt your mate's girlfriend to moan and bitch. Finally the hotel has a nice little bar that stays open till 01:30 which may come in handy. £2.60 for a Guiness if I remember correctly.

Enough rambling from me but if you want to you can find out more here. (http://www.jurys-london-hotels.com/jurysinn_london)

I recommend the Holiday Inn in bloomsbury that I stayed in...which, coincidentally, is by the Kings Cross station....good size rooms, nice hotel not far from the tube...

Not much really except avoid The Gunners Pub around kick off but otherwise it's worth a visit to check out all the Arsenal paraphenilia they have up on the walls. The London part of the trip basically went like this. Friday: Stanstead, hotel, Highbury, Gunners Pub, other pubs*, meet mate's girlfriend at hotel bar, bed. Saturday: missing breakfast, Gunners Pub, Highbury, Gunners Pub, other pubs*, Islington Highstreet, hotel bar, bed. Sunday: missing tour to touristy London with mate and girlfriend, watch the telly, hotel bar, meet mate and girlfriend at hotel bar, others pubs*, hotel bar, bed. Monday up at 04:15, taxi, Stanstead. At my peak I was downing three Guinness an hour and I hit my peak a couple of times that weekend. All in all a brilliant weekend.

*Other pubs is a catch-all category that includes one or more pubs we visited, a couple of them were good ones around Highbury that I, for some reason, can't remember the names of.
