I don't know if this is the right forum to post this in but whatever. Sky Sports News are reporting that he is being allowed to keep officiating next season. I'm really happy the football authorities have said he can continue for another year. The best official out there IMO. Will this kind of commen sense descision ever be repeated in football I wonder or is it just a one off?

is this the Italian federation allowing it or FIFA? Italy previously changed the age rule a bit to allow him one more year, FIFA didn't, that would, to my understanding still prevent him from doing WC in 06

Oh damn. I think you're right. Haven't had time to look into it in detail, just keeping one eye on the news. It seems as it is just a repeat of the initial report about the Italian federation. Sorry about that. I got my hopes for a while there. :(

The Italian soccer federation have allowed Collina to continue reffing. This is a special case that will be reviewed at the end of every year. However, Collina will not be chosen as one of Italy's refs to officiate FIFA matches.
