I agree with you all that there are lots of people who don't get it and I have been annoyed with many of them myself, having lived in tourist towns (Miami Beach and Galveston).

But we've all been tourists before. Ever made a wrong turn in an unfamiliar town and been yelled at as a stupid tourist, etc. ? ;)
 Galveston is a tourist town? LOL, What is the main tourist attraction? Where do the tourists come from?

No, I think you missed the ********ing point. I wouldn't insult someone's hometown that I was visiting. Period, end of. You look like a ********ing ignorant jackass when you do.

Then again, I have manners and most folks don't.
Thanks for the tip, Miss Manners. LOL :D

I tried so hard to find a geeky tourist photo and was gonna apologize for bumping into you on the metro while wondering how people could even live in DC but I guess now that wouldn't even be funny! :p ;)

Galveston is an island with a lot of beachfront area (28 miles). It is also an historical town built in the cotton boom of the late 1800's and there are a lot of historic homes, ships, etc. The downtown area also has boutique shops along with the crappy kitsch ones on the waterfront. There are tons of people from all over Texas and the midwest who go there. It isn't the white sands of Maui, but it is a beach somewhat close to home for many people. The population goes from about 60,000 in the winter to 200,000 to 300,000 in the summer.

Really? I've never been and don't know much about it. I always pictured it as a run down port town, maybe with some rusty oilrigs offshore and some broken down shrimp boats in the harbor. I didn't know that it was nice, maybe i have it confused with Port Arthur or some other city on the Gulf. No offence, i've never really spent any time in TX, and since that girl from Dallas hasn't gotten in touch, i guess i won't be visiting anytime soon. :(

No worries, it actually was more like that about 15 to 20 years ago! :D There has been some significant work done on the town, let me tell you! I've been going since I was a kid (family in Houston and went to college there) and now do a lot of work in the area.

walking in haleiwa (north shore oahu) once with my surfboard, some fellow tourists almost ran me over. i heard one say "OMG you almost hit that...local!!!" sometimes it's fun to be a camouflaged tourist.

I prefer it that way myself. I used to a lot of work in St. Croix USVI and always went to the same bar at the end of the day. One night a waitress came up to take my order and told me she was glad to talk to a local and that the tourists were driving her crazy! :D
