HB returned to their winning ways in the 2002 Faroese League. In the 17th round they beat EB/Streymur 2-0 to win the Faroese league and become the first team to qualify for the 2003 Champions League Qualifying. They finished off the season in the 18th round with a 3-2 road victory over TB.
Here are some pictures from the deciding match against EB/Streymur.

Final Standings
1. HB 41 pts
2. NSI Runavik 36pts
3. KI Klaksvik 33pts
4. GI Gota 32pts
5. B36 Torshavn 32pts
6. B68 Toftir 26pts
7. VB Vagur 22pts
8. Skala 13pts
9. EB Streymur 12pts
10. TB Tvoroyi 6pts
KI (my favourite club) made a late season run to finish third. TB were relegated after only one season. EB had to play B71 (second place in the 2nd division) in a two leg series. I believe B71 won promotion. FS Vagar also returns to the first division after one season in the second.

Yeah, HB and B36 share the stadium in Torshavn and it is astro turf. The turf is usually sprinkled with a little sand.
There are only three grass fields in the Faroe Islands. One is the national stadium in Torshavn (built in 2000) and the other is also a national stadium in Toftif. There is also a grass field in the island of Surouy <sp>, but it isn't used that often. The grass fields are usually only used for national games, and European club matches.

ohmygod! there's a pitch invasion. Damn Faroe Island hoolies, trying to ruin the game.
Okay, seriously...Thanks for the link. If my wife and I ever get to travel, in addition to games in all the footballing capitals, we'd also like to take in games in places like the Faroes and, of course, Iceland.

I would recommend a trip to the Faroe Islands if you are in the area. :) The only real problem is the country can be expensive when looking for a place to stay. I spent two weeks in the Faroe Islands and I just loved it.

Interesting end to the season in the Faroe Islands (1st division playoff). EB won 1-0 at home against B71 (second place in the second division), but B71 won the second leg 1-0. The match should have gone to extra time and then perhaps PK's, but it was too dark to continue the match. The ref ordered a third game to be played. Obviously B71 didn't like this decision, but they couldn't do any thing about it. The second game was played and EB won 3-1, thanks to two goals by Romanian Sorin Anghel. EB keeps their place in the first division.
Intersting all these Fire fans responding to the Faroese Champion thread. Most be the fake turf. Maybe the Fire should get a sister city in the Faroe Islands !! I'd like to visit that country one day. Went to Iceland for a short trip (have to get back) and used the Lonely Planet Guide book which also covers FI and Greenland so did some reading on FI.
Thanks for posting about FI, now I wish someone would post about Iceland footy also, how did KR do. Guess I can do a web search. Cheers

I heard that the Faroe Islands might be hosting Kazakhstan in two games this April. One match would be played in Torshavn, and the other in Toftir.

If the faroes do not start behaving we will have to send the mighty Danish army to teach them a lesson ;)
