It has over 120 years since a student team has made it to the first round proper of the FA Cup. They will play Mansfield at home in the first round.

"LONDON (Reuters) - Team Bath, the first student team to play in the FA Cup for 122 years, reached the first round proper of the competition with a penalty shoot-out victory over fellow minor league side Horsham on Monday."

I don't know why but I'd prefer it if they called themselves University of Bath or Bath University (whichever is the official name) rather than Team Bath. But thats just me.... :)

That's gerat for them. :) I wonder if they can make it further .....

I'm going to be hoping that Havant & Waterlooville (my home team) can beat Danenham and make it to the second round!

I know European ideas of hygene as slightly different than those in the USA, but it's hard to believe that they have college-aged "bath students." Shouldn't the kids' parents already have taught them how to keep themselves clean? And from pictures I've seen of the FA Cup itself I don't see how a single "bath student," let alone 11 of them, could fit inside the damned thing.

I think you should know that this is NOT an undergraduate college team in the traditional (or romantic) sense of the word.

The Bath team is, in this case, made up exclusively of "mature" students almost all of whom have playing experience in either professional (lower divisions) or semi-professional football and who are now collectively taking an associate (two-year) course in sports administration and management.

This team has more experience and has, for the most part, played at higher levels individually than the majority of their opponents in the FA Cup so far, and most of them are looking to get back into the full time game as well. They are an anomaly...they are not a university team in any "real" sense of the word.

I am not trying to rain on their parade or belittle their achievement (well done to them) but if you read the press, even they are somewhat embarassed at the way they are being painted to be some they really are not.

Did anyone happen to catch the wording on the back of Bath's manager's jacket? I swear it said "You'll never Bath alone."
