When there is a mistake related to soccer in this column, I hear from dozens, if not hundreds, of readers. That’s OK, because mistakes shouldn’t be accepted, and it’s good to stay in touch with our readers. Some of you, however, respond by telling me I am a dope, you ridicule my knowledge of the game, and you make fun of my name. Eventually, you will say something unkind about my mother.

In those moments, I get a sense of the power of the written word, the speed of the Internet, and the size of the soccer community.

but not, apparently, that these responses to "mistakes related to soccer" reflect the readers opinion of the writer. don't speak about the mistakes as if they were someone else's property...

For those of you who believe the Daily Herald should provide more soccer coverage, such a showing should be considered depressing. My editors might conclude we’re wasting too much time, money and energy on this sport.

or, just possibly, readers are hoping that the editors might conclude that their choice of soccer writer was a horrible mistake and needs to be corrected...

I've always thought that they should connect these internet cameras to a very loud PA system:
"Hey you in the red shirt. Yeah, you. Get to work. Break time's over."

Great to see such good coverage in my hometown newspaper. Hadn't noticed it before. I'll give this dude a call sometime when I find free time, and just chat up a little bit.
