Peopel really drink Absinthe? What does it taste like?
It has an anise flavor to it, although you're supposed to drip water over sugar into the absinthe to water it down a bit (it is 70% alcohol). It's either that or you do it the "crack way" and hold a lighter under a spoon of sugar, then mix it into the absinthe. I will say that the only people I've ever seen drink it did straight shots of it, which I can NOT see doing.

Actually, the reason I'm back is to help my parents move to lovely Albany, NY, so nothing really fun, though I'm hitting the ballpark next week for a Pirates game. One of my college buddies is also coming down. Haven't seen him in a few years so that's cool. I am enjoying being back though. Just nice to be able to flip on the TV and understand ALL of the channels! Oh, and going to Smoky Bones the other day for ribs was fantastic.

Honestly, I've never had it before (tough to get in the States and expensive as hell in Taiwan), but friends that have had it say that normally two shots finishes you pretty quickly. If you're really lucky, you get to have all kinds of crazy visions and dreams. If you're not, you just have a really nasty hangover the next day.

Kind of. Real absinthe contains wormwood, which has a chemical in it called thujone that causes hallucinations. You're not allowed to import it into the States, although I don't think you can get arrested for possession. You can actually buy absinthe in liquor stores here (Pernod is one brand) that doesn't contain any wormwood, but what's the fun in that?
