I know it sounds silly, but during the European offseason, I play a lot of FIFA 2004 on my PS2. Has anyone enjoyed playing with a certain player or club and then it lead them to support them in real life???
This thread is suppose to be fun. So please relax, I'm not saying it has happened to everyone, but I'm sure deep down inside playing with certain clubs on a video game has made some football fans out there like or follow them.

Not with clubs, but I've always kept an eye out for players who did well for me on Championship Manager.

Not with FIFA, but when I started watching american sports I always rooted for the teams that were the first I played the season mode with in the video games. e.g Orlando Magic was the first team I took at NBA 95 (Sega Mega Drive) and my first Ice hockey team were the Dallas Stars. (NHL 1999)

Whenever me and my friend play using club teams it's always Boca v. River with me playing with Boca, since we've been doing this for years I always cheer for Boca when they play River.
On the other hand ever since playing FIFA World Cup 98 on 64 I've always had trouble with Germany, to this day whenever I'm playing an international competition and I come up against Germany the games are always good. The same goes for whenever I play ManU, Chelsea, Roma, Tottenham, or Valencia during a club competition, cause those teams always knock me out or eliminate my chances of securing a good league standing.

Manchester United from FIFA 95. So I was kind of a 'fan' of them at first. I still have a little part of them in my heart I guess, even though I am far from a fan of the club now.

I was just thinking about this as I was watching my tape of the Mexico Argentina CC semi final. I remember playing FIFA 2003 on my PS2 and taking a liking to a one Juan Ramon Riquelme. I always used to play with Barcelona and Inter in the previous games so none of the players really surprised me. However when I started scoring crazy goals with Riquelme I decided to look up his careers and I sort of took a shining to him ever since.

Man, I took Nottingham Forest to 8th in the EPL in three years on FM2005, lead by my fearsome front line of Florent-Sinama Pongolle and Peter Crouch:D, so now I kind of watch out for both players. Also, in another career, Alan Smith won the EPL scoring title playing for my Liverpool, so he holds a special place in my heart.:D

I've definitely learned a ton from Football/Championship Manager. It has influenced me to like players, but not teams so much. I do think back in the day (Fifa 98 maybe), when I knew nothing of soccer, I may have grown fond of some teams.

This year when I got tired of killing teams in Winning Eleven 8 with Milan, I decided to take up a challenge and try to help a small team become good. I picked Messina, and I'm not a supporter, but I always hope they do well (unless they play Milan).

Winning Eleven 8 made me like Czech Republic...putting Koller and Lokvenc together twin tower style, incredible and I like wing play, Nedved and Poborsky are a good pair.

road to the world cup 98. i would try to get players that i hadn't heard of or that were good bargains. i got rai from PSG, boban from milan, redondo from madrid (because he was dirt cheap) ian wright from arsenal, martin dahlin from blackburn, oli, alfonso, and cuellar(i think) from betis, savicevic from milan, to name a few. in WE 6 i always bought ulises de la cruz as my first right back on a free transfer. then i'd get sergei rebrov and emile mpenza. in WE 8, i like the young guys in there. i get the young guys and hope to see them play sometime (some are already on the first team.) guys pique, rodrigo defendi, abate, nery cardozo, ben arfa, verza, glen johnson, chiellini, robert smith, quincy owusu-abieye, and arturo lupoli.

Yeah me too. If ever i hear of a player who was good for me on Champ and i'm talking about him with someone i'll be saying stuff like 'well he's brilliant on champ so he must be good'.
I took Rushden & Diamonds from non - league obscurity to being the Champions of Europe over 10 times in a row - all in successive seasons, mainly thanks to a then unheard of Zlatan Ibrahimvoc up front.

Where possible I create Dinamo (no need for that in CM) right away and play with them constantly.
And if I decide to change the team I play with some teams I already like (Milan).
But I must say it happened to me with national teams. I started to play ISS 2 with Ukraine and began to like their team, and cheer for them.
