Word is AW has told him to pack his bags and head for London, with the deal to be done by Monday, at about 6million quid!

The word in Germany is that Arsenal offered a lot more than £ 6m. More about 18m Euros.

It was not actually meant as criticism. When one considers Hleb's age and the length of his contract he is easily worth more than £ 6m, perhaps as much as 18m Euros when he fullfills his potential.

The point I was trying to raise is that either the figures of the BBC or of Kicker are false. 18m Euros is nearly twice as much as £ 6m after all. Alternatively, the deal isn't really done yet, and the evaluations are still pretty far apart.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is confident Belarus midfielder Alexander Hleb will be at Highbury next season.

Stuttgart have agreed to sell after Arsenal increased their offer to £6m.

"It is fundamentally not a good idea to force a player to stay when they want to leave," Trappattoni told Bild magazine. "The team is far more important than one individual."

Hleb's buy-out option is worth 20 Mio Euro IIRC. Arsenal's last offer was 15 Mio Euro plus up to 3 Mio Euro successs-related (Champions League qualification during his time at Arsenal, EPl titles...the usual stuff). VfB seem to let him go for that kind of money.

Really don't know whether he will make it at THOF/Emirates. I have followed his career since his appearance at Sindelfingen indoor U18 Daimler Cup (one of the most prestigious youth indoor events in Europe) where he was voted best player of the tournament and was immediatelly signed by VfB Stuttgart. Very elegant, fast player that knows how to play fine assists - so he might fit into Wenger's philosophy. On the other hand, I don't know whether he is made for the English league?!? Time will tell.....

Anyway - congrats for signing a really talented player!

It willl be anticlimactic if/when it happens. I miss the days of some signing none of us were expecting...Reyes, Wiltord...Campbell! We've heard Hleb rumours for months. Mind you, my co-worker who's currently back in Minsk will be happy.

Thanks. Nobody thought that Pires was made for the English league, which he wasn't ready for his first season. But players tend to put on more muscle for their second season and know what to expect. I wouldn't doubt that Wenger can make a great player out of him.

The Hleb deal is on ice until we decide on SWP.

 A bid for SWP has nothing to do with the Hleb deal, you shouldn't believe everything you read on the 'net. AW said it was all but done and Dein flew to Germany to complete it, he will be an Arsenal player and I for one couldn't be happier. If we decide to make a bid for SWP than that's just a bonus, we really don't need him with Hleb's arrival plus the emergence of Quincy and Bentley and we surely don't need him for 18m.

Solid pick-up. I have only seen him play a few times in the last 2 years. He has a sweet touch and delivers great passes...a trademark of the current offensively explosive side.

Great grab, if its true. Been anxious for Wenger to actually make a move, and think looks a good one.

"When Bob was younger, so much younger than today,
he never needed anybody's help in any way,
but now those days are gone and he's not so self assured,
Wenger's signed another guy, he's opened up the door.
Hleb me if you can we're feeling down,
Though we do appreciate Freddy around,
Maybe get Bob's feet back on the ground,
Won't you please, please, Hleb me!" :D
