....he's a good professional player. Will become a fans favorite also.

He will have to play out of position because Stephen Kelly owns the right back spot now.

He'll start ahead of Kelly. Jol values his experience. Kelly will become his understudy.

I disagree with that, Stephen Kelly has improved so much and has even added goal scoring to his game, I think Stalteri might be used as a right midfielder in the more physical games like Chelsea.

...once again, I disagree with you. Stalteri has the experience. I agree that Kelly has come a hell of a long way, but Experience counts more than most things (unless the player is world class).
You are right about Stalteri playing in a defensive right-sided midfield role against teams that play the 4-3-3/4-1-2-2-1 formation.

Presumably Jol will pick whoever is best in training and is showing the best form in their respective positions. Perhaps we'll get a good idea from the Peace Cup. Still, i'd hate to see Kelly's progress curtailed as he should have a very bright future and the more he plays now the better he'll become

....I totally agree with that statement. He will become much better than Carr, plus he has a really good attitude. Maybe the threat of Stalteri nicking his position will make him a better player faster.

And let's not forget Pamarot. Ok he's got a broken leg and gives away too many penalties. We've got 4 players all vying for right back. Two of these are proper full-backs (kelly and ifill) while Pamarot (CB/RB) and Stalteri (utility?) can be deployed elsewhere. I am really amazed at the size of our squad, it must be the biggest in the prem by a country mile

I think Stalteri and Kelly will both fight it out for the right back position. I can see them alternating a fair bit but I wouldn't be surprised to see Stalteri get the nod in big games.
I can't see Stalteri playing right wing with Routledge and Lennon there barring injuries.

My thinking behind Stalteri playing right midfield in the bigger games mostly against Chelsea is to wipe out the threat of Robben or Duff. According to the person on here from Finland, Tainio done a similar job in the Holland game and he stamped out the threat of Robben. I don't think Routledge or Lennon will be disciplined enough to do this role yet.

But controlling one winger isn't the job of the other. That's the full back's man. The winger's defensive responsibilities come in when their full back pushes up.

That is true but you have to think tactically when it comes to playing them, Robben has made many full backs look like idiots so doubling up on him would have to be a thought.
It is a complete nightmare when you have to face a team like Chelsea they have so many threats.

Got to believe that Tainio, Routledge and Lennon will be RM options this coming season, with Tainio on the wing in away games. Obviously from the clip we have seen he has some moves and an eye for goal. He also has defensive qualities as stated by the Finn.
For the RB imo Stalteri will be the main man. Kelly came on last season with out a doubt, I just can't see Jol signing a 28 yr old player with CL experience to sit on the bench. Either way it is a long hard season so quality is needed to get us to the next level.

I think a knee high, studs-up tackle in the first minute by your worst player might do the trick. Especially if he can subsequently headbutt Frank Lampard and poke the eyes of Cech on the way to the dressing room

That would also work :p

I dont go along with the CL experience, Mendes won the CL and he has been a bench player. Although i have yet to see Stalteri play, he will have to be excellent to replace Kelly.

THFC1 is right. Against the bigger clubs, we will need to double up on the wings.
I think Teemu can do a better job than Stalteri though on that front.
Stalteri wouldn't have joined us if he wasn't going to have long run in the team.
The guy is on the same wages as he was in Bremen, so their is no incentive there.
He's 27 years of age, and must play regular football. If he doesn't, expect him to moan and then leave at the end of next season, in which case, we didn't want him anyway.
Pamarot was a Santini player, along with Atouba. I cannot see both of them at the club by the start of the 2006/2007 season.

Here is my two cents on Stalteri...
He will definitely start as he wouldn't have been brought over from Werder Bremen to sit on the bench. He has the Champions League experience and will definitely start but I think after the first 8-10 weeks he will be in and out of the lineup.

...why do you say that he'll be in and out of the line up?

I really dont think he will start, Stephen Kelly is fast making us forget about Stephen Carr and Kelly is going to have a good partnership down the right with Routledge.
