The current 4 defenders (CB's) who will be used this season are:

1) Toure
2) Campbell
3) Senderos
4) Cygan

Should we be after someone this summer? Can this group work well enough for Arsenal to claim OUR title back? Set pieces were a freakin joke last season and I would love the feedback!!

I think its fine.
Though Cygan worries me sometimes hes the last resort.

If Sol can stay healthy then yes. Senderos really showed how good he is when he was called upon this past season and I think that those 3 are good enough to not have to buy anyone big this summer.

Yes, as long as any two of Senderos, Toure and Campbell are healthy at any given time. It now looks likes Cygan won't be returning to France anymore..

If we do splash the cash.. I'd think a £3-4 mil investment would suffice for a decent back up. I don't think we need to purchase someone of starting XI caliber at the CB position.

I like what some poster mentioned... pairing a Senderos/Campbell with a speedy CB.
Toure fits that mold.. Cygan is well... he's pascal cygan~ :)

Happy is such a subjective term, isn't it? I wouldn't protest if we went in for another decent CB this summer....but I certainly have no complaints with Senderos, Toure and Campbell.

I would feel alot better if we brought in another cb...then get rid of ralph and move Toure over to the right...I am sure Kolo can cross the ball at least as good as Ralphie boy.

Well happy might not be the right word for it but at least I'm content with it. I've thought for a long time that Cygan is a decent back-up for the CB position and now that he seems to be down to fourth pick I can easily live it. Realisticly I don't think that we can get anyone better at the moment considering how much we can afford to pay for the player both in transfer fees and wages and still get somebody considerably better that's willing to accept being fourth choice without making a lot of noise about being on the bench. Besides I don't think that Cygan is quite as bad as a lot of people thinks he is. He isn't good enough to be a starter but he's good enough to be a back-up in my book.

senderos is an excellent backup for sol/toure and worth starting in cup games that sol is fit for as well.
my only concern would be if either sol or toure were injured, and the other picked up enough yellows for a suspension- then we would be left with old faithful, Destroyer of Hopes and Protector of Mediocrity, Pascal Cygan.

With all the rumors about Reyes to Madrid floating around, I'm surprised Wenger's not investigating a deal including Woodgate.

Surprised or relieved?

Yeah, it would be great to exchange the most talented attacking player we have right now for an overrated defender that is injured most of the time.

What a difference a few months make. Not long ago, we were all praying / sacrificing 1st borns that Wenger would buy a new CB, yet now we're all quite content with what we've got, (me included). If we can avoid having more than 1 injury to the main 3, then it looks like we'll be fine. Toure'll get more experienced, Campbell is at his peak for a CB, and I don't think Senderos will have a dodgey second season, he seems to have too steady a personality. We're not going to find a quality CB that will want to sit behind Senderos and Toure, so lets be happy...

How about the full backs though ??

Who was talking about Henry?

As far as Cygan goes, if anyone can come up with a realistic scenario in which he doesn't play next season then i'll be happy with him staying. On the other hand, he mostly seems to put Toure off his game, so maybe if we could avoid the combination of those two, we might be alright.

We have cover at CB and left back, think RB is weak.

Lauren has many lapses in concentration, weak in the air and doesnt provide enough dangerous overlapping runs. Think we could do better there.

Having said that, dont think its a priority as we cd switch Toure to RB and use Lauren as back-up

my thoughts on Lauren are pretty well known... I say Ralphie sucks.. then i get the First Team RB thrown in my face..
all opinion i guess~

I'll vote yes but I wish there was a "Happy with top three but thinks Cygan is a disaster" option.

I got my hopes up with the Cygan to Nancy rumors. Then I saw the headline to this story (http://skysports.planetfootball.com/list.asp?hlid=287592&lid=2&cpid=8&title=Hammers+in+for+Pascal&channel=football_home) on the Sky site today: "Hammers in for Pascal". I clicked on the link full of hope...only to have that hope crushed yet again. :D

We're fine as long as 2 or the top three are available but we all know that Cygan will get in to some games especially with Sol's ankle problems hanging over him for more than a year now. That means dropped points, insane own goals, and me pulling out so much hair that I'll end up looking like our Pascal.

The current defenders do the trick, but a little more depth in the bench would be good. The first XI list is tops, but it goes downhill pretty quick after that.
