I've seen him only a couple of times, so I'll let some of our more astute observers chime in.
EDIT: Sorry, didn't see that this was being discussed in the transfer thread. Delete as required.

I can't express how much I enjoy watching Arsenal screw with Real.

Yeah, I agree. I know we'd love to get the player, but I can't help but think that at least a part of Wenger is enjoying making Real sweat.

Unless he really wants to come to Arsenal, I can't imagine we would win an actual bidding battle with Real Madrid. In a Football Manager sort of way, it is neat to think of Robinho on Arsenal, but I can't believe that we'd be the highest bidder (provided that are moves continue to be guided by reason).

I agree, it seems hard to believe. But if you think about it, Real Madrid have been less of a force in the transfer market over the last few years. There last 'galactico' transfer was for beckham for £25m... Owen was only 8.. (Though woodgate was a ripoff at 13). They sold Makalele for a pretty penny too. They did make an -attempt- with a decent amount for Vieira, but failed.. and that's possibly because of wage demands. Real might be a bit skint with their massive wage bill.. maybe the royal favors (free land, taxes, etc) have dried up. At least, we can always hope.

Watching Robinho play this last week, he would be a great addition to the Gunners. I think it would be good to bring him up and push Reyes back to mid. We'll see.

He would be massive. And I agree on Reyes.. he played much better from the wing last year than in the hole or up front.

I'd like to see Robinho at RM rather than up front. His creativity is great but I see him being abused by some of the EPL's big CBs.

An Henry/Robinho pairing would be menacing! Please come to Arsenal, Robinho. We can give you playing time, stardom, and Thierry Henry! You're too good to be playing second fiddle to Ronaldo, Raul, Owen, Zidane, and Beckham. Choose Arsenal!

Even though he's right footed, Robinho prefers to drift out to the left, like Henry and Pires.

Come on Wenger. Stop playing. This is real. Which pocket did you put the 14M big ones?
You just want Chelsea to up the bid to 20M, and sit back and have a French laugh. Don't you?

Can't see him going to Arsenal or going to England, i think his sights are set on Spain and Madrid, if Real Madrid come crawling he'll join them, no doubt. South Americans tend to choice Spain or Italy for before England :(

Agreed, and so the reports go he knows that he will be on the sidelines t Real where as he will get the chance to shine and improve under Wenger. According to a lot of reports his agent is saying Arsenal lead the chase.
it would be a great signing.

I read somewhere that he is a big Barcelona fan. So I'm not sure that his heart is really set on Madrid. We'll see.

As far as Real's finances go, while they always manage to pay out ridiculous amounts of cash over the years, I remember hearing rumors over the last couple of seasons that those days were numbered, as the financial picture wasn't quite as good as it had been before. Basically, they were put in a position where, if they could net a "Galactico", the money would be made available. If not, money would be a bit tighter so they could splash it out on one big signing. Again, these are just rumors that I heard somewhere during the last couple of years, but the fact that we just raised the fee 6m GBP is going to make them think long and hard about whether they want Robinho or whether they want to save up and go after another "Galactico" (which Robinho's not, since he's not established in Europe yet).

Also.. don't they already have three non EU players?

Im not so sure he would shine at Arsenal, but either way its good to see them putting up a fight with Real. Robinho is extremly light weight, even for South American standards. I think he would be easily run over by some of the Epl's Defenders.

Reyes was pretty small when he first came to the club. However, over last summer he gained a pretty good amount of muscle. It didn't stop him from being kicked around vs. ManU, but he had the muscle nonetheless.
