so does anyone know if they've actually approved these stupid new rules they are talking about?

1) 12th man becomes a proper substitute who you can bring into the game at any time (as a permanent switch for another player), and he can bat or bowl.

2) fielding restrictions altered - 10 overs at the start, then another two 5 over periods at any point in the next 40 overs, at the discretion of the fielding captain.

apparently they are supposed to be in place for the final of this series.

seem completely unnecessary to me.

i think the sub rule is dumb.

it is a little bit comparable to the role of designated hitter in american league baseball though, as what you're really going to do is take your bowler with the worst batting and replace him with a specialist batsman (the worst one at fielding) when you bat and vice versa.

all it does is lengthen the batting order. australia bat deep enough as it is already!

yeah i know. I just find it odd to Americanize a sport that isn't American, but being a fan on the American League in baseball i can see what he's getting at. I don't think they should use subs. I like how you live and die with the team you pick.

i just started following cricket, don't know much. how common is it to get caught behind?

it's very common but it also varies quite significantly from player to player.

gilchrist has been out in this manner in all three games this series, all three times he has got a start as well, but has played a poor shot - the first two times were carbon copies - trying to cut a short ball which was too close to him (i dont know if it was the same today as i missed it, but it's reasonably likely)

different players have different flaws in their technique which can lead to them getting out the same way again and again, and once the opposition work out what is going on they then bowl to a plan to try to get the batsman out in that specific way.

Video highlights of the rain abandoned England - Australia match. There are some very interesting moments in there. A player given out on a catch when the ball had hit the ground, Hayden getting hit on the shoulder by a bizzare throw, etc.

halfway done and the aussies are at 116-3. if the continue on that pace they will finish with 232 runs after 50 overs. going to be an interesting finish
