So I see that Arsenal.com (http://www.arsenal.com) now has a redcurrant background in honor of the new kit.

It seems to be having an affect on me -- I'm taking out my credit card and buying a shirt.

Worked on me. I'm going to be in London in late July and I hope to pick up a uni. And I've not really cared much for the strip the last decade...

I saw that as well. Not bad to kick off the kits.

Huh? We play in red and white, but you like the claret (yes, that's what it is regardless of what they say) better? I give up.

Well, who's to say what our strip really is? We've worn red with collars in the 30s and 40s, and in the 70s when I became a fan, we wore red with white sleeves and red cuffs. Our away colors have been green, yellow and Chelsea blue, we've got advertising on the jersey, we've got a tacky crest, and we've had disastrous hoop socks.

I like this color. I've never seen a good color photo of what our original colors were, so if the team says that this is it, I guess I have to believe them. I hate the sponsorship on the front, but O2 is better than Fly Emirates, and for one year commemorating Highbury, the style is better than the Nike standard that has been forced down our throats.

So, yeah, I prefer it. A lot. Now, what's our away strip going to be?

I understand what he's saying. Personally, I liked the first O2 strip, but last season's was really ugly. This one's beautiful (although I find myself thinking of it more as a change shirt than a home one). So I like this one better than the last one, even though it's not the traditional red and white. There's nothing contradictory in that.

When we get to Ashburton Grove and bring back the red and white, I'd like to see them deepen the red just a little bit. The superbright neon red we've been wearing the last couple years is far too bright. Somewhere in the middle - less blue than the redcurrant but darker than the neon - and I'd be thrilled.

I'm curious to see what color the redcurrant really is - the pictures can be misleading. I ordered a shirt though - we'll see soon!

As a kid in the seventies I grew up watching Arsenal in red with white sleeves and trim at home and yellow with blue trim away (And yes, I remember the green abomination too!). I like the traditional colours, messing around with the colours is just hitting fans for more money. A dark(ish) blue is seen by marketing men as being better to wear with jeans, that's why they do it. That's why Man Utd have had the grey and black kits. Red & white and yellow & blue will always be "our" colours for me. I'm already getting gip from West Ham fans for our "claret" shirts for the upcoming season.

There's some good evidence to support this as the original color. Sparta Prague adopted Arsenal's redcurrant after a visit to Highbury in 1906, and have been wearing it ever since. Compare:

Looks pretty good to me....

I'm just pleased we haven't gone back to some of the horrendous away kits of the early 90s...

Nope, we're getting a new away strip using Nike's new template. It will be yellow, though.

The yellow with blue triangles has become a bit of a cult classic though! The blue/turquoise one with the lightning type pattern down the front was terrible.

I hate to say it, but in the right light... your new kits look wearable... I've also liked your Yellow and Blue in the past...

its a weird question to ask, but did any of you like our 3rd kit this year? the white with stripes across it? I hated it at first but it kinda grew on me.

Nope, never liked the white Man U kit with horizontal pinstripes.

I'll give you this - you guys have had some sharp looking shirts. I especially liked the home shirt before this one, with the little black triangles at the neck. But your current 3rd shirt isn't among them.
