Wow, must have been 23,000 in RFK tonight - and 18,000 of them were wearing orange. I was in section 205 and I could swear I, my 10 year old daughter and her friend were the ONLY DCU supporters in the section!

Still the good guys won. It was 4-0 when I left:

Convey after about 10. Moreno at 62 & 63 and Lassiter on 80.

Boy was the crowd quiet after that<G>.

And just one more thought:

So the 'worst' team in MLS handed the best team from El Salvador a complete drubbing ... well that just about says it all! I wish I were able to be at RFK on Nov 17!

The Sallie crowd was its usual boorish self -- not just cheering for their team, but booing everything our guys did. A lot of drunks. A couple of disturbances in the stands. I wish we didn't keep playing these losers. The contrast between the Sallies and the Hondurans I was in the middle of last year at the WC qualifier is night and day. The Hondurans were wildly ecstatic and loud in support of their team, but they were having a good time and didn't mind if we did to. The Sallies are something else again.

4-0 sure shut them up. It was great to see Jaime get two in a row in a span of about a minute. He seemed possessed. No doubt that crowd got under his skin.

Let's hope we do it again on the 17th -- and then no more Sallies.

Bobby Convey completely dominated the first 10 minutes. He completely controled the middle offensively. Then Convey scored and United played much much less aggressively. 1-0 at half time but Convey covered defensively and Richie Williams pushed forward ... uhhhh wtf? The game was entertaining but not many great scoring chances for either team.

The second half was great, Aguila attacked on all cylinders. United thwarted the attacks but lots of good individual play for both teams and good team play for United. Aguila looked good in spurts, but never seemed to get everyone on the same page. They definitely have some guys with offensive skills, but, like United usually, didn't seem to have the forwards who could finish tonight.

Convey, Eliseo, Moreno, Williams and Reyes looked very good. Jim Curtin, guest a player from the Chicago Fire, did not look good. He won everything in the air, but seemed lost on United's back line. Santino was unimpressive. Justin Mapp had three or four flashes of clear class, but looked very much like a rookie for most of his minutes. Clearly he's not ready for anything more than a sub role yet.

Moreno scored 2, the first of which was a pure gift, but hey, at least he finished. Moreno showed well for the ball and passed quickly and precisely. It was the strongest Moreno showing in a while, but he still didn't really look like he's ready to pull the trigger with any strength.

Eliseo Quintanilla looked splendid. I think he was playing an attacking midfielder role with Convey, and he did an excellent job controlling the flow of the game in the middle and holding the ball. He seemed a bit nervous taking a free kick against his old team and didn't clear the wall.

Aguila reminded me a lot of United actually. They played solid ball control offense but didn't have the forwards to get anything from it. United had the height advantage by at least 2" at every position. United's team speed also seemed superior to Aguila's. This allowed United to dominate the air on set pieces, and get back on counter-attacks.

Both teams looked a lot alike as well. United is the Black and Red and Aguila is the Black and Orange. Both uniforms looked very cool IMHO. Both teams logo is a black shield with an eagle on it, also quite cool. Aguila was the 2000 league champions (I'm not sure how many championships they have but I defintely saw a hat that said Aguila was 200 champs at least). United was 1999 champions. Both have very very very passionate fans.

Unfortunately, the game was very chippy. I think Ivan McKinley had a sloppy tackle earning a yellow card. From that point onward it was a nasty game. I think there were something like 15 yellow cards, and every one was deserved. Olsen got one for dissent for dribbling the ball right in front of the ref, then passing the ball and immediately (while still in the ref's face) screaming at the ref. Very unprofessional of Olsen IMHO. Most yellows were obvious and a few could have drawn red. Moreno was taken down by a double leg lock and slammed on the ground. He was also NFL tackled from behind by a dude with both arms who nearly broke his back but the no foul was called. United was just as guilty of the chippiness. Ugly, but very well officiated I thought, and the ref did everything he could.

The crowd was totally unruly. Beers were thrown at United supporters at least 30 times from all over the stadium. There were a few fights I think, but I couldn't tell for sure (but others said there were fights). There was a large element of completely classless fans there tonight. It gives the crowd a very bad reputation. some were kicked out after the police and stadium staff started watching the crowd instead of the game. Total cheap-shot artists, and I have zero respect for those cowards.

It's too bad you had to watch your back at the game, because it distracted from some very skillful and entertaining soccer from both teams.

What a great game. Definitely fun to be back in 120 rockin' La Norte like we always do. The Sallies tried to get people in our section but then they whined to try to get us to sit down. One of the CSC people tried to get us to, but then Steve Zack came sprinting over and told the stupid Sallie shits that we had every right to be doing it and if they don't like it to go somewhere else. Thanks for coming to bat for us once again ZackDCU!

As for the game, simply amazing. So nice to see a big win.

Ask Carolinab and JAnderson14 (who joined us at halftime) about my prognastication skills...in all I said during the game...

-At the beginning:
Should be great to see Convey in attacking mid, maybe he can score an early one. (He would score in the 9th minute)
I bet Jaime scores a really trashy goal and breaks out of the slump he's in. (An ugly but yet beautiful goal to break the slump)

-In the second half:

(After Jaime's goal) That's it!! That's what he needed to break out of this slump, he's gonna score a sweet one right now!! (An amazing goal followed minutes later)
(When Lassiter was subbed in) It'd sure be the icing on the cake if Lassiter scored his only goal of the year for us against the Sallies. (Rocket Roy would soon go on to loft one up and over the goalie and under the crossbar and in)

Carolinab and the girl I brought should be able to verify my only 4 predicitons of the game, and Jason for the second half ones because that's what he was there for.

Great to see Kamler back in a United kit!! At halftime I told him to come back permantantly and he said he'd see what he could do.

All in all a great night to be at RFK. It's always great when we have games in the fall there (Playoffs, Unity, Exhibition), and tonight was no different.

Thanks for pointing out Kamler. It was great to see him back, and his strength on the ball was very impressive. He was double-teamed against the sideline with zero help, he turn the ball behind his back reversing direction like 4 or 5 times until he finally created a small break and dribbled just inside the sideline and through the double team. Amazing stuff! Welcome back Kamler. :)

I knew Eliseo played very well, but I hadn't realized that he got 3 assists! Well done Eliseo!

Oh yeah, I neglected to mention that we actually got to see McGinty play. He looked fine but not really challenged much. Want consistentcy? Rimando has played every minute of every game since the day he was dispersal drafted up until the second half of this season-ending friendly where Hudson decided to give McGinty a run out. Heh, that's our MVP Nicky Rimando.

I never thought I'd see the day when this current United team, as it stands right now, would actually tower over an opponent.. Tron was right, we seem to have at least "2 on every Aguila player..

I won't be as forthcoming as Tron was about Aguila.. I thought they were a dreadful side.. Only #24 for Aguila seemed to have any idea what he was doing out there tonight.. United was physically, tactically and quicker than their Salvadoran opponents.. It wasn't even close.. If not for United's mantra of "we must dribble into the box to score a goal" mentality, we could have bagged 8 goals tonight..

I must say that I was quite impressed with the Salvadoran turnout and conversely quite dissapointed in the relatively low number of United supporters that showed up tonight..

I really like Quintanilla in that holding midfield position (it seemed clear to me that Convey had reign to run anywhere on the field tonight from his central attacking position) and he worked well with Convey in tandem..

I thought Mapp looked very good going upfield and was beating the Aguila right back (the bald dude who also plays right back for their National Team as well) like a drum and put some nice dangerous balls into the middle... It appeared to me that Mapp pulled up with a slight knock and was taken off for Chino..

I really thought Richie Williams was esepecially good tonight (that hurt just to type that).. Again though, his lack of foresight and offensive vision prevents him from finding teamates who were running clear all night from the defense...

Moreno snapped out of his season long funk (and looked good toasting the left back on a half field sprint towards goal early on in the match) with two nice finishes (especially the second goal) but he still holds onto the ball too long..

Olsen never seemed to into the match and was subbed out with a slight knock in the 56th minute..

I'll agree with Tron in saying that Curtin looked ordinary at best out there.. He did his job by winning every 50/50 ball out there, but his passing was atrocious..

Reyes, of course, was outstanding.. His speed in defense is something that has never been seen in MLS before IMHO.. He simply nullifies any type of breakaway with his closing speed.. If he could only score a goal or two he'd be seriously dangerous....

Rimando was left with very little to do.. On a side note, congratulations to Nick and Jacqui Little for settling on their new house in Alexandria. Jacqui and I had a nice conversation before the match.. My brother is going to hook them up with a satellite dish..

Great effort all around and I for one am looking forward to the changes and the new excitement for next season....

4-0

Dc United won, easily. Only about 7-9 fights in the stadium. Not bad for a sally match.

We definantly need a change in Marketing personal. How wonderful it must be for them to sit in their little booth, watching DC fans getting their asses whooped in the stands, pissed on, and females getting harrassed (ass pinched).

RFK needs more bathrooms. Did anyone else have to swim through a pool of piss to get to the can? Half of the dudes in the bathroom had no problems pissing on the floor.

This just adds fuel to the fire for the 17th. I'm gettin kinda worried about the level of violence we may see on that day. Oh well, hopefully nothin goes down...moronic sallies.

Aguila's #24 was Magdonio Corrales, and I also thought he was their best player, but he was the forward starting with Raul Diaz-Arce (#27), and Corrales looked like he was a creative midfielder. Another player who deserves mention is #21 Marvin Benitez, who while listed as a defender, showed some nice ball skills.

When I was defending Convey as attacking mid many times late in the season people pointed out that Etch was helping him. I suggested that Eliseo might be able to take that type of role helping out Convey. Nobody's claiming Eliseo is Etch, but when looking for value I think Eliseo brings a lot to the table in central midfield.

BTW, the first goal by Convey was de ja vu. Convey and Eliseo worked almost that exact same give-and-go at almost the exact same place on the field against Dallas.

Quite simply we beat the living crap out of "CD Aguila" in front of their own rabid fans

When we scored the 4th goal, it looked like a fire drill

What a night! The pregame tailgate resembled some sort of pagan ritual with all the road flares. I told Begbie we should sacrifice a virgin and he said good luck finding one in this town. Some DC United honey gave me and my drum a ride on her golf cart past the Salvadoran contingent right up to the ticket booth. I broke out the Yellow CAUTION tape in honor of the 97 Barra Brava. That was the year of the infamous "Rocket Incident" After that game they used the tape to seal off the Barra. We would rip it down and make bandanas out of it. It was great seeing the entire Barra with the yellow 'danas last night. The game was great. Jaime showed some fire as did Convey. Aguila was out matched and outclassed. So were their fans. What a bunch of losers:rolleyes: Then McOwen blows out his knee and Red&Black locks his keys in his truck. I finally got to Mario's pizza around midnight and savored one last brew and a couple of slices of Mario's best.
Truly a night to remember......:)
