Everytime I hit the DC website I see the "Send DC Players to the All Star Game" page and while I am a DC homer and have voted for almost every one of our guys at least once (I don't think I ever voted for Guppy as a defender), I am wondering who you, that bleed Black and Red, really think is having an MLS All Star year in 2005? Who do you think is really deserving of this and why?

Several of them haven't been on the field long enough this season to even justify it. Some are having a below average season, let alone games. Some are just average this year. One that is deserving of consideration is not even on the ballot.

If I had to rank the guys that I have voted for the most, I believe it is Maestro Gomez, then Benny, then Jaime and then Nick. Although I have to admit I haven't voted in the past 3 weeks. I really like the desire, heart and fire Gomez brings to the team. I believe Benny was the heart of DCU while we had so many injuries to start the season. Jaime really has picked up his play of late. Nick started slow but has been picking up all season and now is playing like he belongs. I really wish Bozz was on the ballot. He has held his own this season.
Which DCU players are on your MLS 'A' list?

None. We have 4 games in 8 days at the end of August. Let's boycott this farce.

I rarely vote for DC United players to make the All Star game. I tend to vote for players on the team they're playing after the All-Star game.

Exactly. DC vs. CheŁ$ki is our all star game, and the Open Cup is around Aug. 4th. I've completely reversed my opinion on this and am now voting against DC players... (Except Petke, of course :) ) There's a thread (dying) in the Barra Barra Forum.

Right now I think Adu is the only danger of playing, but there is the Gold Cup he might be in...

Midfielders
1. Landon Donovan -- LA -- 40.8
2. Clint Dempsey -- NE -- 28.4
3. Freddy Adu -- DC -- 23
4. Cobi Jones -- LA -- 15.6
5. Clint Mathis -- RSL -- 14.6

I'm voting for the first people in every column (save Petke).

El Guzan (Busch is out).

Agoos, Brown and Petke.

Cancela, Cooke, Cassio, Donovan, Gray.

Arnaud and Cunningham.

Thx,

Jay!

Warning, Serious Post: Guzan deserves at least a bench spot on the All-Star team just due to the crap he gets week in and week out. He's got a pathetic side ahead of him that lets him take shot after shot after shot, and despite giving up an inevitable couple of goals a game, he makes some outstanding saves and never seems to have a crappy attitude about the situation.

Everytime I watch Chivas, I enjoy watching that kid play and I have nothing but growing respect for his performances. If playing on this Chivas side doesn't kill him first, he can turn into one hell of a goalie in the future.

I agree, Guzan should be rewarded for being on such a horribly constructed team - and having to endure such a horrible GAA and play in front of such a bad OVERALL team.

Here I was hoping this thread would be about a DC United all time XI.

They'll probably select 16 guys, plus the two commissioner's picks, which is what they did in 2003 for the Chivas allstar game. I would guess Garber will pick Adu for sure, and probably either Djorkaeff or Ramirez.

I'm having a really hard time giving a rat's ass about the All Star Game.

Besides, he's the only goalkeeper who's probably mentally prepared to face 40 or more shots on goal (per half) due to a total lack of defending in front of him... kinda like playing in the All-Star game every week, wouldn't you say?

You could have stopped right there and the post would have been the same.

Always wanting to talk about Micah Cooks.....

:)

I think I win the "Most glancing brush with semi-fame" award. Caleb (the brother of Judah and Micah) is/was a barrista at my local coffee joint. We struck up a conversation when he commented on my DCU hat.
