At your service. At least someone likes my sarcasm...my wife definitely does not!!!

Dude, I'm all about the sarcasm! Probably why I didn't keep my ex-wife! LOL!!!

I need to find a good Irish lass! They're all about the sarcasm too. Could probably kick our asses with it too!

And maybe they can tell us why the Germany away shirts were green and white!! :)

Now you got me going. I wouldn't count on the Irish lass theory. My wife is of 100% Irish descent and still thinks I am a wise-ass...

Nah! I mean a woman born and raised in Ireland! I've dated a few. The only ones who could keep up with my sarcastic sense of humor and actually give it back to me worse than I could give it! LOL!! :)

Sadly, none of them were into football and the one I met who was, turned out to be my best friend.

This is my mission in life now. Find a single Irish woman who's into football and can tell me why the Germans wore Green and White away jerseys!

Like I'm gonna do that in San Antonio!! LOL!! :)

I have e-mailed the DFB and received no response. Looks like this is a dead issue and we still don't have a real answer.

Now that we have lived through recent history, at least we can tell younger people later in our lives that the away kits of '05-'06 were because Klinsi wanted a color that represented an attacking style of football...

This was not all a loss. I learned the history of color schemes for German passports and the fact that you are looking for an Irish (F.O.B.) chick...

BTW, congrats to the Spurs...

You guys are great. need to get back to the states, gotta love the humor, can't have that hear 8at least not in the British north.... hey, the best radiostation in this area after Project 89.0 was shut down is run by British and they speak an english accent... quite scary...

I think the blue Kit from 1974 was Sepp Maier's goalie kit

As for the Green kit story, I believe the Ireland story, it makes great sense to me anyways

although im inclined to believe that germany wore green and white in homage to Werder Bremen ;)

As for the new red kit. I really like it, look a lot better than the black and gray ones of recent years. But i would still much rather prefer the classic green away kit

Damn, that's a shame! I always liked listening to them when I was in the Braunschweig area. Any idea why that happened?

RTL bought them, bought another radio in Eastern germany, merged them and produced another Radio station nobody needs playing exactly the same music like N-Joy, Jump FM and L1fe (leaving L1fe as the best radio station we get here in hanover), the station is named 89.0 RTL (and has that sexy RTL design they use for their sleep music station also...)
I wish we'd have at least Delta Radio here :-(
We just have to few rock radios in Germany...

But Delta used to be a loooooot better in the past. They still are the best radio station in the north, but compared to what they played some years ago, they suck. :-(
Thank god for the winamp radio stations...

Ladies and Gentlemen,

The DFB eventually e-mailed me so I will share the info:

The real answer seems to be that the first colors of the DFB logo were white-black and red which matched Prussia's colors. This would give us a clue to the current color sequence. During the post-war period apparently sometime in the early 50's the DFB colors were green and white (although the logo stayed black & white) which is when the away green kit surfaced. No mention was made of the Ireland story, so it remains merely a story for now...Please note that the info provided by the DFB is not based on factual stories just supposition from the records of colors that they have on file. There may have been other reasons for the colors, however they were not able to find any historical written record of note.

So, I was right. :) thanks.

Reviving an old - an interesting - thread.

I was doing a search and came across an article that looked very familiar. Then I remembered this thread.

Here's another source for the Ireland-explanation. Not saying I believe it, but it's just another opinion. Whether it's myth or not, who knows:

http://football.guardian.co.uk/News_Story/0,1563,347342,00.html

Well, apparently there was an update on that site that was missed:

http://football.guardian.co.uk/News_Story/0,1563,352302,00.html

And here's the answer they gave to the DDR blue strip, in case you're wondering:

here's (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Germany_national_football_team#Trivia) another source that helps to put the Ireland myth to rest. This discussion reminded me of the French when they wore green and white striped jerseys in Argentina because their jerseys hadn't arrived and they had to were a local team's shirts.
