I think that's the picture many non-Phish and non-Dead fans (such as myself, though I know this isn't how it really is) have of those concerts: a bunch of hippies in an amphitheater with a huge cloud of pot smoke hanging above. It also never helped that many of the Phish and Dead fans I knew in high school in college were stoners who used to say things like "the only way to listen to Jerry Garcia play guitar is while you're high!" Didn't exactly make me want to start listening to them.
ya i suppose if you arent into the music, then you just arent into it..
do i like listening to some dead when i've toked a spliff? sure, but i just enjoy a nice buzz. and waldman, that quote from your highschool/college "associates".. they just sound immature.
go listen to "junta" and tell me what you think.

it's sad and it sucks because as soon as I say Phish is my favorite band, I know people think I am a huge stoner.....*has a what, me? look on his face* but seriously, I am a professional who loves phish (and jambands)...don't include me in the "Dead-Phish" wook group please.

contrary to what nicephoras will tell everyone. you can actually be a professional and smoke an occasional joint.

If you don't limit it to rollin' then I would say maybe 25-35 percent are there for the music only.....15-20% just to party....the rest a combo of both...

I'll admit my bias, I cannot get into ANY jambands. Any. Well, unless you count some MBV and Stereolab as "jam-esque" but that's very different.

Well, they weren't exactly the sharpest knives in the drawer to begin with, and I think they would have used any excuse to get high. "Man, the only way to watch the CBS Evening News with Dan Rather is while you're high!" Sadly, on some nights, I think it was Dan Rather who said that...

I don't like to do much of anything at shows, even drink too much, because you miss out on the music. Nothing worse than waking up the next day and wondering how the show went. Of course, at some of the shows, I did stuff that will keep me from becoming the President, but I enjoyed the sober shows most of all!!
Besides alcohol, I haven't touched anything in many years. The last time I smoked was about 9 years ago and it had been a number of years before that. After 3 puffs I got up, told my wife (then gf) that we were leaving, got to the house, and immediately went to bed! :D

Have done Glastonbury drunk, high and sober...
One year, was sooo far off my head on home made flapjacks that I missed out on the whole music experience, (well I was there in body at least) and have gone a bit silly on vodka, but generally i find a nice gentle buzz to work the best... If only we could get the mix on those flapjacks right :rolleyes:

Ironically enough, even though I've never smoked up once, I LOVE that movie. How can you beat a film featuring Bob Saget as a coke addict who will do anything to get his fix? I'll be picking up the special edition when I get back to the States this weekend.

I picked up on some of the Cure influence, and the Byrne makes sense. Not a huge Cure fan, but I got over it. Pretty good and will need a few more listens when not busy "working". :D
