Back on topic, at the meet the team day a DC United staffer told me that as soon as the land is transferred to the DC government you can expect an announcement. They assured me that all of the i's had been dotted and t's had been crossed as far as the City Council goes.

Then, this morning there are a couple articles in the Enquirer about the transfer. One was specifically about the soccer stadium - though it didn't say much other than it would be jump-started by the transfer. The other artcile quoted Marion Barry saying there would be development along the Anacostia in Ward 8 and that he was supportive.

Sounds encouraging. I might have to write Tom Davis and Susan Collins today and as them to act quickly.

This is the DC City Council we're talking about. There's no such thing as a done deal until the bulldozers arrive on-site.

I bumped into Stephen Zack making his rounds to the box seats at half time, and asked him about all the nicely dressed gentlemaen in the owners box I could see from the Nest. I asked him if it was the new owners and he was very diplomatic, but said a positive announcement looked like it might be coming soon.

Enquirer? Examiner, maybe?

The best part of this thread was the news that Marion Barry was supportive. If there's ever a politician who can rally support, it's Barry.

Not that he's willing to waste his political capital on this stadium, but it shows he's not willing to spend it to work against it.

And, after all, Poplar Point is in his ward.

You are right, sorry about that. I only picked it up because of the headline to see if there was anything United oriented in it.

Funny thing happened at the airport upon my return trip from vacation...we landed in detroit and there was this guy wearing a LA Galaxy shirt...my daughter goes "nice shirt" and than he sees my husband wearing his dc united hat...turns out he is a developer that helped with the home depot center for the galaxy and that he was going to the dc area to talk about stadium plans...my husband told him that us fans would really like bouncy seats and a roof over the stadium...he said he is also working on the chicago stadium as well...it was pretty cool, he seemed like a nice guy as well. Hope it was true with what he was telling us. Dude sat in first class with his wife while his kids sat in coach.

Marion Berry will also be crucial. Hearing that he's "supportive" is a very good thing, even if we don't know quite yet what aspects he's supportive of.

Someone told him that they might find cracks in the concrete and his ears perked up.
