Or not.

Done in again by the dreaded "technical difficulties."

They showed the second half. Luckily we missed no Cesc because he came on at halftime! He played reasonably well, but the other events in the game were very unusual and interesting but I'll wait until we get an R in the title to divulge...

Thanks Coach.

So anyone see this game? Up 3-0, they (Spain) subbed off the goalie only for the backup to give up a penalty and get red carded. So the smallest guy on the team, a striker who had scored the opener, puts the gloves on and saves the penalty! How many times has someone scored a goal and saved a penalty in the same game? He then made a couple more great stops before the game was over as well. Cesc looked good, and I forget that he is even smaller than most of the U20 guys.

He played the full 90 in both their earlier games, so I think today was just an opportunity for Spain to get the spares some PT.

Now if only the US can draw Spain in the knockout stage so we can answer that "Cesc vs Adu" question once and for all... :)

If you really want to know then mail the question to The Knowledge boys (knowledge@guardian.co.uk) at the Graunidad. They answer a couple of anorak-like questions like that a week. My guess is that it's been done a couple of times before. I'd be surprised if that nutty Columbian keeper, I can't remember his name right now, hasn't done it at least once.

I think David Di Michele did it this year for Udinese. He scored two goals then saved a potential game tying penalty in a match that ended 5-4. The penalty might have even been in the 90th minute. Can't remember.

Yes, v Lecce, Incredible match. The pen call was in injury time.

I had considered watching the match but didn't - then when I saw the highlights in the evening.... ugh.

Wrong gilberto, it was the gilberto who plays for hertha who played on thursday, our gilberto might be playing tonight though hopefully.

Thanks for the correction -- my bad.

Our favorite Gilberto is listed as Gilberto Silva, the other guy is just referred to as Gilberto.

Unfortunately, our Gilberto is not in the starting 11 for today according to FIFA.com.

For people planning to watch today, our Gilberto wears No. 17, the "other one" wears No. 6.

And I think there is a Brazilian named Gilberto playing with the MetroStars in MLS. I think he sometimes is called by one name; sometimes with the surname Flores.

Not about Gilberto, but I found Klinnsmans comments about Jens telling. He singled him out for making great saves, something Kahn hasn't done during this tourney.

Methinks "King" Kahn's reign may be just about over...

I merged these 2 threads so we can keep everything centralized.

It's kind of odd that Gilberto hasn't played a minute yet. Perhaps Brazil is using this to try out a new D-mid?

And Edu has been on the bench for both matches. I guess that's more Valencia related now, but he's still my boy.

Senderos captained the Swiss U-20's, but they are eliminated now.

I am so hoping for a Spain/USA match up down the road for the aforementioned "Adu v Cesc" matchup.

On a somewhat different (and only formerly Arsenal related) note, did anyone else see that van Bronckhorst has become Brazillian, apparently, and goes with "Gio" on the back of his shirt??? Of all the people in world football to go by the single name, he was about the last one I would ever have thought of...

I don't think I'd be capable of watching that. My head might explode.

Sadly, it really won't matter much. If Cesc outplays him everyone will say that Cesc is older, has more experience, and better players around him.

If Adu takes Cesc to school, we might want to just close this board because Sam's Army will be coming in here with a vengeance... ;)

About Lehmann, he pretty much pwned Kahn. He made two good saves, while Kahn was pure crap against Australia. Too bad Klinnsmans is bias for Munich players and would never ever drop Kahn as long as he remains a player in Munich (the same can be said of Ballack).

And our Gliberto didn't have any chance to play, but the other Gliberto was actually quite good. As for Edu........... let's just say he never was good enough to play in the Brazil first team.

I believe you're thinking of Rene Higuita.....and yes, he's a nut.
