VALENCIA are ready to snap up £3million Robert Pires from Arsenal.
The Spaniards will pair him with Edu, who arrived on a free in May.

Two Thoughts:
First, "More Bollocks From The Sun" Could have been the title of a Doors album - if they came from round Islington instead of Los Angeles.
Second, I don't get the 3 million valuation. He's at least 6 or 7 million every year when its time to build my fantasy team. WTF is up with that?
BTW nice job spotting this it's right there with Wenger's "rage" at VanPersie, in which he was quoted as saying...absolutely nothing...Funny that was the Sun too...

agree with you phishy. they've been wanting to sign pires for years and now seeing as how the contract negotiations have stalled it seems to be the perfect time for them to try and snap him up.
so yes, i can believe this story.

... I don't get the 3 million valuation. He's at least 6 or 7 million every year when its time to build my fantasy team. WTF is up with that? One season left on contract = bargain basement!
The real Q is why, knowing that we have this policy for 30 somethings, didn't we give him a 2 year extension a year ago? I know his form has been patchy and I've been one of his critics, but, he was still 3rd highest EPL scorer last year?
We have not been covering ourselves in glory in contract dealings of late. IMHO, there has been some majorly bad thinking and penny pinching going on at Highbury, and the new stadium can no longer be used as an excuse for being cheap! The club have sold nearly all the new directors boxes, with significant increases over Highbury and the VIP season tickets are selling like hot cakes, so their likely to make a bundle off "non-corporate" hospitality as well. For next year we'll make a packet from CL TV rights and there's also the £5mil or so for stealing, I mean winning :D, the FAC???
Bottomline, having been of the view that a one year extension for RP7 was fair, I now realise it isn't! If we don't want to keep him, we shouldn't have bothered negotiating at all and just flogged him? If we do want him then we should give him his 2 years! If he scores 10 league goals a season for the next 2 years, then warms the bench as a squad player for the third year, the deal would still be worth it!!! You have to give Super Bob his due. You can't write him off because, just when you think he's losing it, he shows that he still has the will to fight it out with the best of em? In the absence of Titi, at the end of the campaign, he generally stepped up to the plate and had a big impact on the games he played in???

This is the way the cookie crumbles!
If he leaves, your team will only have biology. No more chemistry.

I don't want Pires to leave but you obviously don't remember the 01/02 season very well do you? He was our best player for most of it but then suffered a horrible knee injury.......and yet we still won the Double without him.

If he goes, and he probably will, Weng head had better sign Downing and SWP! Screw Hleb. Dowing and SWP and we're sorted! No worried I've sorted it our, calm down!

Do you have the same team you had in 01/02?

Yeah, take out Keown and Adams (whichever one was healthy that week to play alongside Campbell), and Seaman. So we're pretty close to having the same starting 11.

And what exactly do you know about sticking with one team?

There seems to be plenty of players interested in joining the Chavs, obvious reason, The Pool are popular again , not just CL win - but history and Rafa giving them back a bit of cred and class, and yes even ManUre lures a few? But... hold up a bit? I don't see truck loads of outstanding Euro players chomping at the bit to come to Highbury?? Even with a new stad round the corner, a manager renowned for getting the best from his charges, some of the finest players on the planet and a reputation for playing possibly the most attractive football ever to be seen in England.... 'nah sorry guv not bothered!'
If Pires goes, and we don't bring in an experienced wide man, Freddie might follow. We might cope without buying but it'd be well dodgy? That would leave Quincy to run the right flank, a gamble, and Reyes on the left. Ash in front of Clichy and Cesc on the right would be back-up??? If we start next season anything like this, the rest of the prem will ave a laugh! 5 in the middle will shut us down, coz we'll have no width! I suppose we could give up the passing game and play 451 our selves? Then we could sell Titi to Spain for a bundle, buy Crouch, for peanuts, to be our only striker, keep it tight at the back and just pump long balls up the pitch, till the Young Guns 'grow up'; or till RVP gets out of gaol! Other than Cardiff in May, anyone remember "Boring Boring Arsenal"? We need width and SWP is out of reach and Downing nowhere on the radar?
Here's something else to bear in mind! AW only knows how to play football one way! Don't get me wrong, it's an enormously beautiful way, but he's nearly as bad as Raneiri when he tries to 'tinker' with the formation! On past history, we need to have the players to make his brand of 442 work or we'll be buggered! Perhaps in a year or two we'll be fine, but come August, if we only have what finished last year, minus a few, we'll struggle to make the top 3!!!

Marty you must be really depressed every time it's off season. Of course if everything turns out for the worst then we're basically ********ed, and if the papers are right (sic!) then that's what'll happen. All I can say is have more faith in Wenger and the board and have less faith in the non-sensical crap the press churns out every summer. Believe me it'll do your health a world of good.
We're not experiencing a crisis, half the team doesn't want to leave, and we're not buying any of the players we're currently linked to. The way it'll most likely go is that the important players wil re-sign, some of the youngsters will be going out on loan, and any signings will come as a surprise to almost everyone. It's been like that for the last several years and I see no reason why that should be different this year.

....and of course the player that got more playing time after Pires' injury....the Romford Pele no less. If Zani had been a Chelsea fan back then, he'd remember Razor's little contribution during the FA final that year.
