The word Kop keeps being used. The only definition I know of related to Kop is with Liverpool FC. What do you mean by that? Thank you very much.

Well, I support and follow this club for 2O years.I'm season ticket in K stand .
I've been a suscriber in K stands in 2000-2001, I remember the ashes due to the combustion of toilet paper by the Boulogne guys...

Toilet paper and flares were really a bad mixing!

Is it technically legal to bring in flares? We're not allowed here in the states, otherwise our section would be lit up for 90min. :) Does anyone know the "official rules" because I'm going to probably go to either a PSG game or Malaga game in Europe this winter.

It's Afrikaans for 'The Hill'
'Spion' mean Look-out or spy. Like a look-out post.
The name presumably comes from the battle of the Spion Kop during the Boer wars. I'm not sure, but they coined it the phrase in honour of the war. The French merely nicked it off the English as a way to sound more traditional and historical.

How do they get away with it then? Every game they have flares, is it just pure numbers that keep those people safe?
I've heard a little about how the ultras movement is not liked by PSG management.
Could anyone go more in-depth for me?
ALLEZ PSG!!!

Security at most French grounds is poor at the best of times.
You could probably sneak in a tactical assault rifle if you wanted to.
Last December, when both sides of the Auteuil and the Boulogne lit flares, and then morons started trouble - Larrue stepped up the heat and had everyone shearched, stripped and scrutinized when they entered the stadium and when they sat down.
All of which was hugely frustarting for the majority of fans, who don't get involved in violent incidents.
Flares are normally brought in by individuals who escape the lax security measures or by one of the group leaders of the Supporters Club - who then distrubutes them, according to various displays or tifos.
Normally, the club turns a blind-eye to what most Ultra groups do. This is merely through process of initimdation by most Ultra groups, who often demand certain things in exchange for self-protection (all of which is not uncommon around Europe). Thankfully, the club and the groups are back on speaking terms and we shouldn't be having any more incidents like those against Metz and the subsequent heavy handed police bullying that followed.
For me, flares look good, but the best tifo is when everyone flicks on their lighters and bursts out a rendition of "Oh Ville Lumiere". :D

I'm not a fan of big soccer, but this thread has revived my faith that there is useful discussion to be had on bs! This post was extremely informative and I've really enjoyed reading it. I'm a PSG fan in the midwest as well, and have been for many years despite minimal knowledge of French. I've enjoyed every visit I've made to the ground (with the exception of an extremely disappointing late draw to Ajaccio in 2002), unfortunately I've typically ended up in the subdued Paris stand...

Hi PSG supporters, thanks for the info, I read it with great interest. I've got a question: last year you had some trouble with Larrue. You had massive protests against it; how did that end up?

The "Authentiks" would be the best fit for you , they are young ( 15yo to 20 yo ) and very noisy and their stand is not full yet. They are the little brothers of the Supras Auteuil.
http://www.authentiks.net/
concerning the atks, they are the new guys and people are liking them a lot... on a lot of psg boards (planetepsg for example) they have been happy (both those who are in boulogne and auteuil) to see an extension of autheuil into the paris "tribune"... so as a result, the flares/"2-mats"/tifos are present in the paris section... also, atks are known to make a lot of noise, real loud, which is always good!!! :) i guess you can consider them the SMALL brother of auteuil... i think its cool and it shows how over the years, the ultra movement in the parc des princes is slowly spreading...
there are some other groups that people did not mention... 1 is right below the atks (in the paris red section) called Paris puissance... they just celebrated their 2 years recently, not a huge group but still influenced by auteuil...
on the other side of the paris tribune, bordering the boulogne side are les vikings... nothing special about them... just another group that makes some noise... there are also numerous department or regional clubs... what i mean is that many people from other regions of france that are born in paris or are huge psg fans have their own clubs... some of the biggest ones are the Club Gers, Club Ain, Grand Sud (for the south) and many others... so when psg goes to play at st. etienne for example, you can bet you'll see the guy from the club gers and club ain there (departments not too far from st. etienne)...
Hi PSG supporters, thanks for the info, I read it with great interest. I've got a question: last year you had some trouble with Larrue. You had massive protests against it; how did that end up?
yea he was let go last year... i was in paris from january to august this past year and went to every game (during the strike - of all years) ... so half of the games, the fans were on strike (welcome to france) and all the chants were either "FRANCIS GRAILLE DEMISSION" or "LARRUE, LARRUE, LARRUE EST UNE SALOPE..." ... i found it funny personally, but i missed the singing and the ALLEZ PARIS back and forth between boulogne and auteuil... seriously, those give me the chills... i wish i could be there right now...
Concerning Kar Sud, anybody know where they are exactly in auteuil? i didn't know they were known to be violent. anybody know also why they decide to be independent and not an offical club? casual firm, where are they in boulogne? in the bottom left section where the racists are (r1)? also, have surpas been involved in stupid fighting between supporters recently and with whom (boulogne boys recently rite?) ... those are my questions...
with psg, there are 2 things i love... 1) the team and 2) everything that involves the fans of psg ... i'd say i spend about 25% of a game not even watching the game but paying attention to fans... they just don't have that here in the states...
allez paris...

The KarSud are in Auteuil bleu with the Supras(the first KarSud are former Supras who used to sit at the back of the bus at away games...) and are independent from the beginning.
The CFP is in B1 stand and are very closed friends with the KarSud
And yes there were many clashes between the BB85 and the Supras last year at Le Mans and Strasbourg..Now it's between Tigris Mystic against BB85,indep',Lutèce Faco and KarSud... :(

tu connais bien ce qui se passe hein?
if you read l'equipe/le parisien etc, they don't mention anything but tigris and les bb85... it has NEVER mentioned once anything about the ind groups, and never would i have thought it would talk about LUTECE FALCO!!! lutece falco of all the groups are by far the most peaceful and are usually never inolved in conflicts...
i do have to say though, never really thought the supras had some violent guys there... it's just sad...
so where did you get the info about tigris vs. bb85/indep/lutece falco...?

for those who don't understand french, it basically says that sarkozy will be passing a (strict) law on violence in stadiums... it will actually be part of the anti-terrorism law hopefully passed in 2 weeks... sarkozy is a big fan of psg and goes to every home game... so the recent violence has pissed him off big time... ALLEZ SARKO!!!!
Foot - L1 : Le PSG soutient Sarkozy
