Apparently Shine Warne has no trouble bowling a maiden over;)

Shane Warne and controversy, they seem to go hand-in-hand. I'm sure he'll have something to say about it on "The Footy Show" (live from London this week) on Thursday night; he's scheduled as a guest, I think.
As for the cricket angle, I wouldn't mind seeing Warney ending his ODI "retirement". Not saying that he'd be a cure-all for the Aussies' perceived bowling woes, but he may very well be better than the form of those on offer presently.

Australia's bowling attack will definitely get better with Lee and Warne in for the tests. McGrath, Gillespie, Lee and Warne will test any batting lineup. England will be hoping that the Australian batsmen keep struggling a bit, none of the top order have really scored big runs in the one-dayers. England's plans for them worked a treat on Sunday as it seemed they had a plan for Gilchrist, Ponting and Martyn definitely although Hayden just got out to a magnificent catch. Whether such good players will keep falling for it though is another thing.

Bangladesh are about 29 runs off of where England was at tje 25th over. if they start cracking it could get interesting.

Well Lewis has done absolutely nothing to impress me in the last couple of games, had a bit of luck with the aussies playing poor shots, and one bad umpiring decision, in the 20/20 game. plus they couldnt really have a go at him due to wickets tumbling.
short of pace, not getting any swing, and lacks control. not an option for the tests because of hoggard and jones, and tremlett looks a better option for the rest of the one dayers with those two currently injured.
obviously he'll need a go against the aussies to actually prove anything, wonder if they'll give lewis one more chance.
i'd rather have tremlett bowling just short of a length than lewis pitching it up and getting half volleys smacked everywhere. at least you can set a proper field for it.

personally i've never felt that gillespie is an outstanding one day bowler, as i think he tend to bowl it a little bit too full, which leads to him being prone to conceding runs as he doesn't quite have the control of mcgrath and tends to bowl the odd very hittable delivery. when you couple this with a surprising lack of pace by his own high standards he becomes a bit impotent.
I think you've hit the nail on the head in saying he doesn't have the control of McGrath, which is his main weakness. His length tends to be, as a rule, rather too consistent. He recently reconfigured his action, which lead to a reduction in pace, but it has definitely improved his performance at the Test level - which is definitely his strength. His form thus far has been disappointing nonetheless.
presumably brett lee will be reintroduced asap, esp. given kaspowicz's tameness, although i doubt he'll do all that much in the one dayers either, but he needs some cricket before the tests, and of course shane warne is yet to come into the squad - and he's the only one who will actually have had any 4 day cricket before the series starts.
Lee has had some trouble breaking back into the Test side, and over last summer was treated more as an ODI specialist. I would actually back Kaspa to keep his Test spot, as he is a brilliant cleanup man. Lee is a strike bowler - he'd have more chance of pushing Gillespie out of the lineup. He doesn't have the capacity for long spells needed by the third Test quick.
watson looked ok in the one game i've seen him so far, but i dont know that he's actually in the test squad is he?
hogg is rubbish and i hate him. jammy sod got 3 wickets as well.
Watson isn't in the Test squad, no. Australia tend to shie away from allrounders in Tests because with Gilchrist batting at #7 you already have a long batting lineup. I personally am not a fan of allrounders as a rule.

nah, all over as soon as flintoff got himself out again. we had a chance with flintoff/pietersen together at the crease.
freddie's been selling his wicket far too cheaply of late, getting starts and then just playing silly shots. it's strange because he looked like he had finally learnt to play an anchor innings last year, which is exactly what he needed to do tonight.
still, let's not forget that the aussies lost to bangladesh! [clings to that fact].

Symonds (back from a booza-a-thon) and Lee (shoulder injury) returned to power the aussies to victory. symonds, man of the match, 77 runs, 4 4's and 2 6's. Lee, in 10 overs had 2 maidens, gave up 27 runs only and 2 wickets.
btw, Clarke didn't play today due to back pain as is also doubtful for saturday.

you're the ones who lost to them mate! The desparation seemed to be on YOUR behalf, Chewie, unless of course your English language comprehension is going the way of the English cricket team's cricketing prowess. :p
goughy just put you to the sword. The #10 batsman scored the most runs for the English cricket team. Mmmmmmmm :D

has anyone mentioned that australia lost to bangladesh? :)
 The #10 batsman scored the most runs for the English cricket team. Mmmmmmmm :D
reminds me of the first innings of the edgebaston test in 1997 - 'bowlingwarney' top scored for you lot with 40 odd as we decimated you, and you went on to win the ashes.
so i think we can all see that goughy top scoring last night is a definate indicator that england will be winning this ashes series. even though he wont be playing. there is nothing brittle about my logic. NOTHING.
