Question,

My roomates lady went to Ireland for 3 weeks and had a lay over in London for a few days. I asked if she would pick me up a club flag (any would do). When she got there she asked around and nobody would even give her the time of day to tell her where she could find one. She said they were very social until they found out she was looking for an Arsenal flag. After that their mood seemed to change dramatically and she couldn't get the time of day from anyone. She didn't know anything about Arsenal or English footy at all before this so she asked when she got back "are Arsenal the Dallas Cowboy's over there or something?". We live in DC so if you bring up the Cowgirls it's a big insult.

So my question is "are we hated in London that bad?".

Any team as successful as Arsenal is will be hated by fans of another team.

The Yankees are hated, the Cowboys are hated (though it's been a long time since they were that good). Only the Packers aren't hated for being successful - how can you hate the Packers?

It's actually pretty hard to hate the Packers as a franchise or as an organization. It's very easy to hate the Packers because of the fawning media hype that they receive which can become pretty nauseating. (Oh, the're such a cute small-market team!).

I've lived in the DC area for 30 years and love all the teams here except for the Redskins, whom I loathe. That franchise has been so sorry that ending Aikman's career just may be the biggest team highlight since 1991.

To get back on topic, I had read something some time ago that John Major was an Arsenal fan but it was considered a political liability to admit such a thing. I gather that the team carries some sort of "image" that's not palatable to many English voters.

you are correct sir...I like that highlight just as much as I like Cal Ripken being the only good thing 'bout your dumb ass Orioles for 15 odd years...(i assume you are an orioles fan...and if not comment stricken from record)

That, sir is one of the more ignorant statements I have ever read on Big Soccer.

You are welcome to be my guest at the Bears v. Packers game this fall. I will show you more than 55,000 people (all in one place, mind you) that loathe the Green Bay Fudge Packers, their fans and all things green and gold.

I was trying to explain Arsenal-Sperz to my girlfriend all I needed to say was that it's like Bears-Packers only the stadiums are so close (like what 4 miles apart?) She understood immediately.

Now please remove your head from your rectum and take that back.... :D

Totally off topic, but anyone remember the TV commercial with Aikman getting sacked and seeing little birdies flying around his head. I think it may have only be aired once, because right after i saw it he suffered a serious concussion. Kinda ironic.
