That's because the Jocks are the ones who would lose out the most if a UK team were formed (at least the Welsh would have Giggs in the squad).

Personally I don't care if we have a team there or not, Olympic football is rubbish anyway.

It's in 2012, Giggs may still be the best Welsh player by then but he wouldn't get in a 'British' team.

Exactly, no-one knows what each NT will be like in 2012.

Good point, although I think it is fairly safe to say that the USMNT will have successfully defended their WC crown in 2010 so they're bound to be pretty good.

Especially seeing as Olympic Football is an Under-23 competition.

I cant see a UK Team at the Olympics being a brilliant success or even a worthwhile venture. Bearing in mind that Olympic year is also European Championship year, the best talent will be 'otherwise engaged', meaning the team to be fielded would surely be substandard to say the least.

Why don't they just stop this British team crap. Its about time we entered the Olympics as independant countries, just like the commenwealth games.

Rugby's doing a good job uniting a British team. Why can't football?

The British & Irish Lions are not the rugby team of a country. It's a touring team, much like the Barbarians. The equivalent of the Harlem Globetrotters. Their results are not official and are only about pride in the end.

Each home nations has it's own rugby team - Scotland, Wales and England. We just lump the Irish in to round things off.

Having said that, I love rugby and always enjoy a Lions tour.
