Having been to Las Vegas now about 4 times in like a year and a half, I've briefly looked around at some condos and time share options out there (which if you know that I live with my boyfriend in DC in a 450 sq foot co-op is REALLY silly!) But, what do people know about owning either vacation property or a time-share? Can you make money renting out when you're not there or is it a royal hassle? Are time shares a huge rip-off or the solution for the budget vacationer?

You can usually get cheap accommodations at the nicer hotels in Vegas if you plan ahead and it is nice staying in places where service is high, the free drinks are plentiful and the pool is heated! However, saving some money on a room and most meals means more $ for gambling. We usually go for a long weekend (leave Fri and come back Mon). I've noticed many of the time-share rentals are for at least a week (although there are a few short stay options).

What do people know?

Personally, I wouldn't do either in a place like Vegas. Unless you're locked into to one place, you can always find some good deal somewhere else. And given the run in Vegas real estate, you're going to spend a lot of money for a property that will be hard to keep rented at a profitable level.
