just watching skysports now, and they opened with highlights (or lowlights for aussie fans). through the show, they mention the top stories and they keep saying "in 20/20 england humiliated australia by 100 runs.."
some good pics here-

oh, and the 'newbies' comment was sarcasm- the more people the merrier here. hopefully we will have some good traffic here this summer with the ashes.
i can;t help but think the english players/fans are really enjoying this as chewmylegoff already mentioned "it's probably all we'll get to cheer this summer."
that being said, england did beat australia last year in the ICC Champions trophy.
"england thrashed australia.."- lol, thats how the show just came back from a commercial. Ha, and this- "they just handed out a lesson to australia.."
eh, its alright. I'm a noob.
Does the land of Oz have a club system like in England? I'm ignorant. If they do I should scout out a team.

in terms of first class cricket each australian state has a team, so queensland, south australia, tasmania, new south wales, western australia and victoria, i think that's the lot. dont know anything further.

Quote of the day from the commentators had to be from Nasser Hussein. Just after Darren Lehhman had said that Australia still had an outside chance, another wicket went down and an uncontrollable Hussein blurted "Get yer pads on Glenn McGrath, you'll be needing them soon!".
Think it's gonna be as entertaining in the commentary box as on the field.
Gutted I couldnt get tickets for this one as the Rosebowl is only a couple of miles down the road from me :(
Still, if this is just a taste of what's to come, then bring on the summer!!!

I couldn't believe it! I was watching it in the gym last night, went to the showers with Australia 2 down and when I got home about 20 minutes later it was 67-7 or something ridiculous. Mad. I did like the way Flintoff just decided to aim straight at Brett Lee when Lee was batting, they'll now be going all out to take each other's heads off this Summer I'm sure.
We're so used to being beaten by the Aussies that we have to take anything we can get though. Come on England! :D

that was geraint jones, not flintoff, who hit it straight back at lee.

No, no, I meant when Flintoff was bowling (I did say when Lee was batting!). And I didn't catch the very start of the England innings, so I'll have missed the Jones hit, but Pietersen almost cleaned up Trescothick as well. He had to dive to the ground to get out of the way of a full blooded drive about chest high.

so you did so you did - not particularly remarkable for a bowler to aim at a batsman though is it ;)
jones drove straight back at brett lee's head, and then had a good laugh to himself afterwards.

No, but it generally doesn't happen in one-day games and I think Flintoff was just laying down a marker for future games this Summer. I can't wait to see what Lee's reaction is going to be the first time he bowls to Flintoff in a test match. And we know Freddie doesn't mind playing the hook shot either, so the spectators at deep square-leg had better be wearing their helmets! :)

Captains agree - it's irrelevant (http://foxsports.news.com.au/story/0,8659,15609043-23212,00.html)
RIVAL captains Ricky Ponting and Michael Vaughan have played down the significance of England's 100-run Twenty20 win over Australia this morning
looks like Vaughan doesn't want to gloat and Ponting doesn't think the match was a preview of what the aussies will show this summer.
regardless, this coming series should be good, and we get to see england and australia pound on the bangers in between ENG-AUS matches.

England need to make the most of any victory against us, as it happens so rarely these days. The twenty20 game is a bit of fun, but the real stuff doesn't start until July 21.

shane warne said much the same thing in a piece in the times today.
although strangely he signed off with: "There is a point I need to clarify. I am not losing my hair. My programme with Advanced Hair Studio is to stimulate my own hair to grow, not a strand by strand replacement. If the Barmy Army want to come up with a funny song, then grat. Anything to keep people happy. As it is I have a surprise hairstyle in mind for the first Test. Just watch this space".
Interesting Shane, interesting.

Yup. That's our domestic first-class level (there are two comps, the 4-day Pura Cup and the 50-over Mercantile Mutual Cup).
Below that is the first-grade suburban competitions in each of the state's capital cities. Every first-class player is nominally connected to a suburban club, but in the summer NT members hardly get the chance to play much State cricket - let alone club games. Of course, in the offseason they tend to head for county cricket in England.

pretty much the same here re: test players playing country cricket during the summer - their county is lucky if they turn out for half of the matches.
what happened to the sheffield shield, was it just renamed the pura cup?

Pretty much... it just got sponsorship (Pura's a milk company). But they chucked the trophy and everything... not something I for one was real impressed about, too much history with the SS.
